Cell membrane receptors and ion channels are essential in many different cellular processes. To analyse the activity of membrane proteins in vesicles and biological cells, we fabricated micro- nanostructured chips, enabling the application of electrophysio ...

The mechanism of CD8 cooperation with the TCR in antigen recognition was studied on live T cells. Fluorescence correlation measurements yielded evidence of the presence of two TCR and CD8 subpopulations with different lateral diffusion rate consts. Indepen ...

Receptors of the Cys-loop family are central to neurotransmission and primary therapeutic targets. In order to decipher their gating and modulation mechanisms, structural data is essential. However, structural studies require large amounts of pure, functio ...

A review. The efficient anal. of the function of ion channels is an important task in many different fields ranging from (bio)analytics and drug-screening to nanoelectronics. Here, the modulation of the channel activity of a synthetic ligand gated ion chan ...

The invention relates to an isotropic cellulose film deposited on an inorg. support layer. The invention also relates to a process for manufg. such cellulose films as well as an anal. cell comprising such deposited films. The cellulose film is particularly ...

Cellular signaling is classically investigated by measuring optical or electrical properties of single or populations of living cells. Here we show that ligand binding to cell surface receptors and subsequent activation of signaling cascades can be monitor ...

A symposium report on the construction of regioselectively addressable functionalized template (RAFT) mols., e.g. I [R = Me3CO2C (Boc); R1 = H2C:CHCH2O2C (Alloc)], as conformationally stable cyclopeptide scaffolds in which lysine side chains point to opposite side of the template backbone. Chimeric mol. I [R = H-His, R1 = S(CH2)10CO] was prepd. and complexed to Zn2+, Cu2+, and attached to a gold surface. [on SciFinder (R)]

In this communication, we report on an interesting observation of wide-ranging potential for cellular imaging and manipulation: Hydrophobic QDs can be easily incorporated into the bilayer membrane of lipid vesicles. Such lipid/QD nanocontainer hybrid vesic ...

Applications of thin SixNy membranes may be found in miscellaneous fields such as MEMS and NEMS as well as biotechnology. FIB is an excellent tool in order to realize nano-structures on membranes achieving the ultimate limits and rapid prototyping.

The invention relates to various embodiments of a bioanalytical reagent with at least one vesicle, generated from a living cell, comprising at least one receptor, characterized in that a mechanism of signal transduction triggered by said receptor in the ce ...

Pressing adhering live cells onto the nanostructured SiN substrate and subsequent removal, planar cell membrane sheets (CMSs) were transferred in a well-defined orientation onto the SiN support. Using perforated thin SiN membranes both, extracellular and intracellular surfaces of CMSs become simultaneously accessible by targeting membrane constituents side-specifically with fluorescent markers. The perforation of the membranes has been performed using FIB technique.

The formation of supported lipid mono- and bilayers on a thiol-coated surface was monitored by utilising the acoustic Love waveguide device. The detection of the lipid layers was used as a model system for relating the phase response to the deposited mass and studying the sensor's response to the regeneration of the surface. The sensitivity of the acoustic device revealed that, in addn. to the mass change occurring during the deposition of the lipid layers, the viscoelastic properties of the interface chang

In time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, the resoln. of fluorescence species becomes increasingly difficult as their resp. lifetimes get closer. For a biexponential decay, a factor of 1.4 between the 2 decay times is commonly accepted as the practical resoln. limit. The goal of the present contribution is to characterize the fluorescence probe 5-carboxyfluorescein using frequency-domain time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy (FD-TRFS). To resolve the different prototropic forms of this probe, the limit

Cells secrete extracellular vesicles (EVs) into their microenvironment that act as mediators of intercellulard communication under physiological conditions and in this context also actively participate in spreading various diseases. Large efforts are curre ...

The authors present the results on specific and non-specific protein binding to the self-assembled chelator thioalkane layer and its dependence on the transition metal ion used. [on SciFinder (R)]

Drug discovery and development are among the most important translational science activities that contribute to human health and wellbeing. However, the development of a new drug is a very complex, expensive, and long process which typically costs 2.6 bill ...

The authors present a method for spreading large (> 100 mm2) cell membrane fragments across nanoapertures in planar supports. Electron-beam and focused-ion-beam lithog. were used to fabricate arrays of 50-600 nm diam. holes in free-standing silicon nitride ...
