In this paper a subarray fed by an analog beamforming network for 5G picocell applications is proposed. Design requirements are presented taking into account frequency band operation, bandwidth, radiation pattern shape and both, antenna element and transmi ...

This contribution presents the design of a compact circularly polarized antenna featuring beamwidth reconfiguration in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The observed radiation patterns in each of the reconfigurable states present axial symmetry and ...

A previous study of a novel technique to design a band-reject UWB monopole antenna by using patch loading is extended. Frequency-domain measurements have confirmed that the antenna designed using this technique rejects the interfering signal at the two int ...

We establish insulator-to-metal transition (IMT) in Vanadium dioxide (VO2) by millimeter-wave (mm-wave) actuation, using two coupled dipole antennas: a simple one as a continuous mm-wave-source and the other one with an embedded VO2 part as an absorber. We ...

This paper presents an experimental investigation of diversity gain influenced by polarization and spatial diversity techniques in ultrawideband (UWB) radio technology. To this aim, two different coplanar-fed UWB diversity antennas having the same size and ...

There has been a huge increase in interest for wearable communication devices in the last ten years. Applications are manifold, ranging from rescue to fashion over medical devices and safety, leading to the definition of new standards for Body Area Network ...

We demonstrate operation of a Ramey-mode Rb vapor-cell atomic clock based on a microwave cavity realized by additive manufacturing (3D-printing). The cavity design is based on a loop-gap approach and its critical electrode structure is realized in one mono ...

The mutual coupling between antennas is an important parameter in multi-antenna systems that needs to be controlled in order to ensure the performance of all involved components. While full-wave simulations are accurate in estimating the mutual coupling, t ...

Re-configurability is one of the key features in modern wireless communications. Indeed, the increase of services provided imply an optimized management of the electromagnetic spectrum, along with strong miniaturization in order to allow for the cohabitation of all these services on small handheld devices. Reconfigurable antennas are one possible answer to these challenges. In this paper, we will present designs of reconfigurable antennas and feeding networks using recent technologies, namely MEMS (Micro El

We present in this paper an integrated cavity-backed patch antenna operating at 75 GHz. The design was optimized using a full-wave software based on the integral-equation method. The antenna was realized using micromachining technologies on two wafers: a s ...

A new compact coplanar-fed antenna suitable for polarization diversity in ultra-wideband applications is presented. The antenna consists of two identical monopoles which are printed on a low-loss substrate with 3 mm spacing and positioned perpendicular to each other. Both frequency- and time-domain results have been measured and presented to validate the design. Results show that the proposed antenna has not only ultra-wide bandwidth (~115% for port 1 and ~107% for port 2) but also good port isolation above

We report on the performance evaluation of the LEMAC miniature atomic clock, based on the optical-microwave Double-Resonance (DR) scheme, implementing a micro-fabricated Rb vapor cell held inside a custom-designed micro-loop-gap microwave resonator (μ-LGR) ...

This contributions presents the design process for an antenna designated for the telemetry in a cranial implant. Issues like physical limitation, simulation problems and design strategies will he addressed and final design presented. ...

The Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) antennas are a crucial component of small satellites, as their in-orbit attitude is not always well-defined. The TT&C antenna design for a CubeSat is an even more challenging task, considering the volume restricti ...

Far field superlensing of light has generated great attention in optical focusing and imaging applications. The capability of metamaterials to convert evanescent waves to propagative waves has led to numerous proposals in this regard. The common drawback o ...

A wireless sensor platform for use in ultralow-power wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is presented. The proposed round sensor (RoSe) node is physically robust, is resistant to humidity, and has a housing that can be in direct contact with food. These charac ...

Millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies has become a research area of interest in recent years because of providing broad available bandwidth and thus higher data rates. Wideband mmWave antenna is one of the important development areas in wireless communicati ...

Long-term bioelectronic implants require stable, hermetic encapsulation. Water and ion ingress are challenging to quantify, especially in miniaturized microsystems and over time. We propose a wireless and battery-free flexible platform leveraging backscatt ...

W-BAN applications have been around since a long time, but have been experiencing a tremendous growth during the last decades. This results in the need of dedicated antennas, which are designed and optimized taking into account their lossy surroundings. De ...
