This work presents the design, fabrication, and experimental validation of a complete near-field magnetic RFID system tailored for the detection of ultraminiature RFID chipless tags operating in the UHF range. The proposed system comprises four subwavelength-sized chipless RFID tags, a RFID reader and a backend detection system. The chipless tags are implemented as LC resonators consisting of an octagonal loop antenna and a floating capacitor that have areas of 17.89 mm 2 , 2.92 mm 2 , 1.65 mm 2 and 0.75 mm

Performance limitations for implanted antennas, taking radiation efficiency as the metric, are presented. The performance limitations use a convex optimization procedure with the current density inside the implant acting as its degree of freedom. The knowl ...

In this paper we present a technique to broaden the beamwidth of conventional patch microstrip antennas by using parasitic elements. This technique allows to keep the main advantages of microstrip antennas while increasing their beamwidth. We provide guide ...

The safety of electromagnetic exposure induced by 5G base station has become a big issue accompanied with its large-scale commercial application. To solve the assessment of 5G base station equipped with massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and 3D ...

A compact asymmetric coplanar strip (ACS)-fed monopole antenna is presented, which operates within the Bluetooth and UWB frequency bands with the capability to simultaneously reject the lower WLAN interfering band. The antenna consists of an inverted right ...

Fundamental bounds on achievable radiation efficiency serve as the design quality gauge, facilitate the choice of the antenna type considering the available dimensions, and provide simple rules to check the feasibility of a given design. This study quantif ...

Body-implanted bioelectronics rely on antennas to interface with external on- or off-body equipment. For a given input power, the antenna type and operating frequency significantly affect the power dissipation in tissues. This study addresses the exposure ...

This paper proposes a compact non-canonical non-uniform conformal phased array antenna (NNCPAA) attached to an irregular UAV surface to overcome the space and aerodynamic constraints for high-gain, wide-scan applications. The NNCPAA is parametrically deter ...

An iterative procedure for the synthesis of uniform amplitude focused beam arrays is presented. Specifically, the goal is to optimize the locations of a fixed number of array elements with known excitations in order to synthesize narrow-beam low-sidelobe p ...

A simple method to design optimally matched composite right-/left-handed transmission lines (CRLH-TLs), based on the computation of the Bloch wave equivalent impedance of the corresponding unit cell circuit is presented. Although the matching of CRLH-TLs t ...

An L-band patch-antenna system for CubeSat applications is presented in this paper. The high-permittivity dielectric loading reduces the size of individual antennas to make them suitable for a CubeSat platform. Two circularly polarized patch antennas were ...

Implanted antennas are a key part of wireless implanted medical devices. However, the lossy nature of the surrounding body tissue significantly reduces their radiation efficiency and gain. Therefore, it is important to maximize the power reaching free spac ...

This paper presents a 7.5 × 7.5 mm 2 tunable segmented square loop reader antenna working in UHF band for magnetic near field RFID applications. The proposed reader is combined with a post-processing method based on frequency sweep envelope (FSE) for detec ...

Nowadays there is an increasing need for radically miniaturized and low-power atomic frequency standards, for use in mobile and battery-powered applications. For the miniaturization of double-resonance (DR) Rubidium (Rb-87) atomic clocks, the size reductio ...

This paper proposes a studied case to assess the EMF (electromagnetic field) exposure distribution for a specific deployment scenario. This developed novel approach based on a Monte-Carlo (MC) approach took into account the non-uniform user distribution an ...

Real time tip clearance measurement in gas turbines and other rotating machinery is an interesting way to provide enhanced reliability, cost effective maintenance and more overall safety. This paper presents a novel microwave sensor for blade tip clearance ...

We present an integrated composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) phase shifter analogically controlled by means of a MEMS series capacitor. The device is based on coplanar waveguide (CPW) technology and operates at a central frequency of 18 ...

The attachment of 5G with millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies offers massive capacity and low latency to reveal the full 5G experiences. High directive gain and beamforming are considered essential for mmWave 5G systems. The main requirements of the beamf ...

This study investigates the maximum achievable received power for an implantable receiver deeply implanted in the human body, considering both electric dipole and magnetic loop sources with millimeter-scale dimensions. The analysis incorporates safety constraints related to the specific absorption rate. A full-wave simulation approach is employed for the case study. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can be applied to high-frequency simulations, where a received power of 0.16 W is achievable a

Dual resonance Rubidium atomic clock requires a microwave resonator tuned to the frequency of the hyperfine transition of the Rubidium 87 isotope. The vapor cell containing the Rubidium atoms is placed within this resonator. In order to achieve a good cloc ...
