Fundamental radiation limitations of in-body or implantable antennas should give us an estimate on the feasibility of some desired system. It was shown that near-field effects and distance to the body - freespace boundary are critical aspects, while the sh ...

This work presents the design and realization procedure of small implantable antenna for biotelemetry applications. The radiator occupies a volume smaller than 3 cm(3) (without its biocompatible insulation), is well matched within the Medical Implanted Com ...

The efficiency of an on-body wireless power transfer system for implant powering is defined by how the electromagnetic energy interacts with the lossy, heterogeneous, and dispersive body tissues. The objective of this study is to discuss the methodology an ...

Antenna bounds are a useful tool in assessing the feasibility or performance of an antenna design. Microstrip patch antennas are often limited by their relatively narrow bandwidth, and therefore Q-factor is an important design parameter, as it is related t ...

This paper is to investigate the pattern distortion that happens in the extremely low incidence angle for a flat TM-polarized half Luneburg lens antenna (HLLA) by using a purely reactive impedance surface (RIS). For the scenario of a radar mounted on an un ...

This paper presents a low-profile wide scan angle multibeam conformal antenna array system with a novel feeding network for 28 GHz mm-wave 5G applications. The proposed antenna system utilizes two conventional branch-line couplers as its beamforming networ ...

This paper presents the electrical design and characterization of a wafer-level, or 0-level, package for micro-electromechanical resonators. We start by identifying the requirements on the electrical parasitics of a packaged resonator, derived from an anal ...

An application to antenna optimization of bayesian network density of probability estimators is presented. This technique is very usefull for optimizations where abig number of parameters, multiple solutions and local minima increase the likelihood to converge towards suboptimale solutions. Three methodes are presented and compared in the case of antenna optimization.

The modulated scattering technique is based on the use of reconfigurable electromagnetic scatterers, structures able to scatter and modulate an impinging electromagnetic field in function of a control signal. The modulated scattering technique is used in a ...

We describe a method to measure the relaxation rates in Rubidium (Rb) Pulsed Optically Pumped (POP) vapor cell frequency standards. By means of repeated spectroscopy measurements with varying Ramsey time, we show how to extract multiple estimations of the ...

This paper presents a combination of three computational methods in a hybrid approach designed to model the radiation of antennas within arbitrarily shaped capsules implanted in a host body. A surface method of moments is employed to represent the radiatio ...

The effect of substrate permittivity on UWB antenna radiation is studied. Microstrip and CPW-fed UWB monopoles are designed using substrates with different dielectric constants. The radiation patterns are measured. The transfer function of a two identical ...

This letter presents the design and measurement of an antenna integrated into an agricultural sensor network node operating on the 2.4-GHz ISM band using the ZigBee protocol stack. The novel structure, coined bowtie-shaped folded dipole (BSFD), has a diffe ...

With the application requirements of wireless technology in implantable bioelectronics, knowledge of the fundamental limits for implanted antennas becomes critical. In this work, we investigated the variation of maximum power density within simplified body ...

Fundamental in-body limitations on achievable radiation efficiency could provide decision-making assistance to engineers working on antennas for implantable bioelectronics. In this study, proof-of-concept conformal microstrip antennas are proposed based on ...

Nowadays mobile and battery-powered applications push the need for radically miniaturized and low-power frequency standards that surpass the stability achievable with quartz oscillators. For the miniaturization of double-resonance rubidium (Rb-87) atomic c ...

This paper presents a versatile energy-efficient wireless transmitter (TX) for neural implants with high/ultrahigh channel counts. The TX supports a wide range of data transmission rates, from 50Mb/s to 1.2 Gb/s, through a novel dual-modulation approach. O ...

This work presents some considerations for the use of a Split Ring Resonator (SRR) and its dual structure, the Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR), as permittivity sensing elements. The analytical circuit equivalents of both resonators are reviewed i ...
