The wireless power transfer (WPT) efficiency to implanted bioelectronic devices is constrained by several frequency-dependent physical mechanisms. Recent works have developed several mathematical formulations to understand these mechanisms and predict the ...

One challenge in designing RF wireless bioelectronic devices is the impact of the interaction between electromagnetic waves and host body tissues on far-field wireless performance. In this paper, we investigate a peculiar phenomenon of implantable RF wirel ...

Implantable bioelectronics require highly efficient wireless connectivity for autonomous operation and closed-loop control, yet power constraints, safety regulations, and data transmission limitations continue to hinder advancements in medical device innov ...

Implantable wireless bioelectronic devices enable communication and/or power transfer through RF wireless connections with external nodes. These devices encounter notable design challenges due to the lossy nature of the host body, which significantly dimin ...

This paper treats the theory and development of a fully passive field sensor for simultaneous electric and magnetic field measurements. The sensor head consists of three orthogonal double loaded loops and three orthogonal dipoles. The sensor outputs are connected to six passive, electro optic lithium niobate modulators. Summing the output voltages of each double loaded loop enables an accurate measurement of the magnetic field. The modulators provide an integrated electrode structure to form the vector sum

This article presents bounds on radiation efficiency and gain for microstrip patch antennas, demonstrating close alignment with the performance of classic antenna designs. These bounds serve as effective benchmarks for assessing antenna performance and eva ...

This communication presents a method for the fast and accurate estimation of the gain pattern and maximum gain of an implanted antenna including the effect of the host body, under the assumption that the latter is electrically large. The estimation procedu ...

Fundamental radiation limitations for in-body or implantable antennas provide valuable insights into the feasibility of certain systems. Previous work has shown that near-field effects and the distance from the body-to-freespace boundary are critical facto ...

Designing antennas for implanted medical devices is a very complex task where one needs to tackle inherently large EM absorption in the human tissue and very limited available space for the antenna. In addition, designers need to carefully limit the power ...

Lightweight, highly porous polyimide (PI) aerogels have emerged as promising candidates for advanced electronic applications due to their exceptional thermal stability, mechanical performance, structural integrity, and low dielectric loss. However, the controlled laser‐induced graphitization (LIG) of such ultra‐porous polymeric networks remains a critical challenge, as localized high temperatures often trigger polymer backbone degradation and framework collapse. Herein, a chemically engineered PI aerogel vi

A design procedure for spherical lens antennas is described. A particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is coupled to a mode matching technique based on spherical wave expansion to analyze the lens antennas. The proposed methodology is applied to three ...

Conformal phased arrays can be found in many applications due to their ability to fit tridimensional surfaces and, thanks to their scanning performance, can excel planar arrays. However, most of the previously proposed analysis methods can be applied only ...

This paper proposes a novel, low-profile UWB antenna for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications. The antenna has a polarization perpendicular to the body-free-space interface, which is interesting in order to minimize the coupling into the body. It ...

Wireless communications in lossy media encounter growing interest, with applications as telemedicine, ground sensing, remote pipeline sensing, and food quality testing among others. As an application, an autonomous implantable Body Sensor Node for monitori ...
