We use mock galaxy survey simulations designed to resemble the Dark Energy Survey Year 1 (DES Y1) data to validate and inform cosmological parameter estimation. When similar analysis tools are applied to both simulations and real survey data, they provide ...

In anticipation of forthcoming data releases of current and future spectroscopic surveys, we present the validation tests and analysis of systematic effects within velocileptors modeling pipeline when fitting mock data from the AbacusSummit N-body simulati ...

The primary goals of the STRong lensing Insights into the Dark Energy Survey (STRIDES) collaboration are to measure the dark energy equation of state parameter and the free streaming length of dark matter. To this aim, STRIDES is discovering strongly lense ...

It is clear to all, after a moments thought, that nature has much wemight be inspired by when designing our systems, for example: robustness, adaptability and complexity, to name a few. The implementation of bio-inspired systems in hardware has however been limited, and more often than not been more a matter of artistry than engineering. The reasons for this are many, but one of the main problems has always been the lack of a universal platform, and of a proper methodology for the implementation of such sys

We combine Dark Energy Survey Year 1 clustering and weak lensing data with baryon acoustic oscillations and Big Bang nucleosynthesis experiments to constrain the Hubble constant. Assuming a flat Lambda CDM model with minimal neutrino mass (Sigma m(v), = 0. ...

A novel architecture descending from the work of von Neumann, has been developed. This architecture borrows its main principles from living systems. Like living beings, the organisms considered here are able to autonomously develop, maintain their functionality and reproduce. These genomic architectures are developed on reprogrammable hardware. They are not restricted to a given class of functions but accept any combinational and sequential function to be downloaded. These architectures are fault tolerant b

The implementation of bio-inspired systems in hardware has traditionally been more a matter of artistry than of method. The reasons are multiple, but one of the main problems has always been the lack of a universal platform, of a standardized architecture, and of a proper methodology for the implementation of such systems. The ideas presented in this article are the first results of a new research project, "Reconfigurable POEtic Tissue". The goal of the project is the development of a hardware platform capa

A novel multi-cellular electronic circuit capable of evolution and development is described here. The circuit is composed of identical cells whose shape and location in the system is arbitrary. Cells all contain the complete genetic description of the final system, as in living organisms. Through a mechanism of development, cells connect to each other using a fully distributed hardware routing mechanism and differentiate by expressing a corresponding part of the genetic code thereby taking a specific functi

Optical imaging surveys measure both the galaxy density and the gravitational lensing-induced shear fields across the sky. Recently, the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Collaboration used a joint fit to two-point correlations between these observables to place ti ...

In this article, we introduce the approach to the realization of ontogenetic development and fault tolerance that will be implemented in the POEtic tissue, a novel reconfigurable digital circuit dedicated to the realization of bio-inspired systems. The modelization in electronic hardware of the developmental process of multi-cellular biological organisms is an approach that could become extremely useful in the implementation of highly complex systems, where concepts such as self-organization and fault tolera

Field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) are a recently developed family of programmable circuits. Like mask programmable gate arrays (MPGA), FPGAs implement thousands of logic gates. But, unlike MPGAs, a user can program an FPGA design as traditional programmable logic devices (PLDs): in-site and a in a few seconds. These features, added to reprogrammability, have made FPGAs the dream tool for evolvable hardware. This paper is an introduction to FPGAs, presenting differencies with more traditional PLDs and gi

In this paper we present the manner the POEtic chip can be used to rapidly prototype systems. This chip, currently in test phase, is a system-on-chip containing a microprocessor and a reconfigurable array. Spe- cial features allow to dynamically create data paths at runtime in the reconfigurable array. It has been specially designed to ease the development of bio- inspired systems such as neural networks, but can serve as a general purpose platform, or as a prototype for hardware/software codesign. An AMBA

We describe the first public data release of the Dark Energy Survey, DES DR1, consisting of reduced single-epoch images, co-added images, co-added source catalogs, and associated products and services assembled over the first 3 yr of DES science operations ...

This paper first explores the effects of faults on circuits implemented with controllable-polarity transistors. We propose a new fault model that suits the characteristics of these devices, and report the results of a SPICE-based analysis of the effects of ...
