This study presents the design, preparation, testing and characterization of TiN and TiN-Ag nanoparticulate films leading to photocatalytic and catalytic inactivation of Escherichia coli. When Ti was sputtered in N2 atmosphere, the TiN films unexpectedly r ...

In this work, we synthesized highly porous reduced graphene oxide foams, presenting augmented antibacterial activity in presence/absence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). To date, this is the first investigation of photocatalytic PMS disinfection by 3D-rGO mater ...

Uniform adhesive TiO2–ZrO2 films co-sputtered on polyester (PES) under low intensity sunlight irradiation discolored methylene blue (MB) within 120 min. The discoloration kinetics was seen to be accelerated by a factor four by TiO2–ZrO2–Cu containing ∼0.01 ...

This paper explores the degradation of a model pollutant, bisphenol A, by an advanced oxidation process that combines sonolysis, Fe2+, and TiO2 in a photoassisted process. Experiments were done under saturated oxygen conditions. The effect of different Fe2 ...

This article presents the evidence for the significant effect of copper accelerating the bacterial inactivation on Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr (TNTZ) sputtered films on glass up to a Cu content of 8.3 at.%. These films were deposited by dc magnetron co-sputtering of an al ...

In this work, Ag nanoparticles were loaded on ZIF-67 covered by graphene oxide (Ag/ZIF-67@GO), and its catalytic performance was studied for the heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) under visible-light. The catalyst surface morphology and st ...

The first evidence for Cu-Ag (50%/50%) nanoparticulate hybrid coatings is presented leading to a complete and almost instantaneous bacterial inactivation in the dark (

In this work, disinfection by 5 Advanced Oxidation Processes was preceded by 3 different secondary treatment systems present in the wastewater treatment plant of Vidy, Lausanne (Switzerland). 5 AOPs after two biological treatment methods (conventional acti ...

This study addresses the visible light-induced bacterial inactivation kinetics over a Bi2WO6 synthesized catalyst. The systematic investigation was undertaken with Bi2WO6 prepared by the complexation of Bi with acetic acid (carboxylate) leading to a flower ...

This laser kinetics features of the electron decay of TiO2 in the presence of the Escherichia coli (E. coli) phosphatidyl-ethanolcholine (PE) and lipo-polysaccharides (LPS) cell wall components were are reported in this study. The interaction of the biomol ...

In this work, the near-neutral photo-Fenton process, as a means of wastewater disinfection, was enhanced by the addition of Organic Acids (OAs), namely citric, ascorbic, tartaric and caffeic acid. The addition of OAs exhibited significant bacterial inactiv ...

In this work, the use of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) against the degradation of an emerging contaminant has been subjected under systematic investigation. The optimization of treatment of the anti- depressant drug Venlafaxine (VFA) was performed, u ...

To provide new insights toward the selection of the most suitable AOP for isoxazolyl penicillins elimination, the degradation of dicloxacillin, a isoxazolyl penicillin model, was studied using different advanced oxidation processes (AOPs): ultrasound (US), ...

This study reports the photosensitizing effect/mechanism of FeOx under visible light irradiation and charge transfer to TiO2 on FeOx–TiO2 cosputtered film. The transients which were photo-induced by femtosecond laser pulses at 545 nm (25 fs) were identifie ...

Background. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the development of new processes for water disinfection since the traditional processes, such as chlorination, can lead to the production of toxic disinfection by-products. Sunlight has been ...

In this study, MS2 bacteriophage was inactivated by homogeneous and heterogeneous photo-Fenton processes in an alkaline matrix (pH 8) using low concentrations of H2O2 and iron forms (1 mg/L), including Fe(II), Fe(III), and Fe (hydr)oxides. As a reference, ...

The photodegradation of isoproturon (IP) was performed using TiO2 supported on glass rings in a 1.5 l coaxial rector. After 60 min of phototreatment, IP was completely eliminated and about 80% of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) remained in solution. This efficiency of photodegradation was compared with that using the suspended catalyst in solution and the results indicated that the catalytic activity of TiO2 is not reduced when it is immobilized. The durability of the supported TiO2 was also tested. It was f

A 4-factor, multilevel, full factorial design of 240 experiments was performed in order to investigate the effect of temperature on the inactivation efficiency of spiked Escherichia coli in simulated solar disinfection of a synthetic secondary effluent. Th ...

In this study, the effect of MS2 bacteriophage on the inactivation of its Escherichia coli host was evaluated in an effort to recreate some the main factors governing solar disinfection of wastewater (namely microbial growth, infection, photonic flux). As ...

TiO2 has been widely used in developing self-cleaning coatings on textiles. Spin coating is widely used to prepare films due to its simplicity and the ability to control the thickness and the characteristics of the deposited layers. However, it has been sp ...
