Theoretical upper limits on the radiation efficiency of reconfigurable antennas based on graphene are presented in closed form and discussed. The theory provides useful information for the design of these structures independently of the type and geometry o ...

Re-configurability is one of the key features in modern wireless communications. Indeed, the increase of services provided imply an optimized management of the electromagnetic spectrum, along with strong miniaturization in order to allow for the cohabitation of all these services on small handheld devices. Reconfigurable antennas are one possible answer to these challenges. In this paper, we will present designs of reconfigurable antennas and feeding networks using recent technologies, namely MEMS (Micro El

We present in this paper an integrated cavity-backed patch antenna operating at 75 GHz. The design was optimized using a full-wave software based on the integral-equation method. The antenna was realized using micromachining technologies on two wafers: a s ...

A new version of the weighted averages (WA) algorithm, called generalized WA, is introduced. Generalized WA exhibit a more compact formulation, devoid of iterative and recursive steps, and a wider range of applications. It is more robust, as it provides a ...

The direct evaluation program tailored to the singular integrals arising in the first-kind and second-kind Fredholm surface integral equation formulations is presented. The exponential convergence of the proposed technique can safely guarantee the inherite ...

In this paper, a full-wave software tool for the accurate prediction of the RF breakdown in microstrip transmission lines is presented. The main objective of the project is to develop a software tool capable to predict the Multipactor and Corona breakdown ...

This work focuses on Green's functions (GFs) of planar multilayered structures that may include an arbitrary number of conductive sheets. The spectral-domain GFs are derived through an automatized strategy based on the propagator matrix technique, while th ...

A new, compact way to match slot antennas to a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed is presented. In addition to its advantages of flexibility, reduced size, and increased bandwidth, a good analytical approximation of the matched antenna behavior is possible. An equivalent circuit and procedures for its design are presented. A set of T-matched antennas has been built and measured at the S-band.

This paper describes the accurate characterization of the reflection coefficients of a multilayered reflectarray element by means of artificial neural networks. The procedure has been tested with different RA elements related to actual specifications. Up to 9 parameters were considered and the complete reflection coefficient matrix was accurately obtained, including cross polar reflection coefficients. Results show a good agreement between simulations carried out by the Method of Moments and the ANN model o

A substrate integrated guide which allows the propagation of both TEm0 and TE0n modes is presented, the Extended Substrate Integrated Waveguide (ESIW). Its structure combines the working principles of SIWs and SINRD guides. While the performances of the ES ...

A hybrid acceleration algorithm for the computation of the static potential Green’s functions of a rectangular cavity is proposed. Similarly to Ewald’s method, it combines the series expansions in terms of images and modes. The main particularity with resp ...

The method of moments (MOM), as introduced by Roger F. Harrington more than 50 years ago, is reviewed in the context of the classic potential integral equation (IE) formulations applied to both electrostatic (part 1) and electrodynamic or full-wave problem ...

We derive the electric and magnetic Green's functions in homogeneous dielectric uniaxial media by casting the problem as ordinary differential equations. These Green's functions feature an apparent singularity on the medium's distinguished axis. Using rigo ...

This paper presents analytical expressions to model the diffraction of plane-waves at planar 2-D distributions of printed dipoles. In contrast to other available analytical or quasi-analytical models, this approach rigorously captures the main underlying p ...

An equivalent-network model is here proposed to characterize two-dimensional planar periodic arrays of arbitrary scatterers/apertures embedded in a layered environment. The model is an extension of the approach previously developed by some of the authors, ...

This paper presents the design and implementation of a circularly polarized stacked patch antenna element for Ka-band applications. The printed element has been developed to be used in a LEO satellite antenna array. Two circular stacked patches, with air g ...
