This paper reports the result of the cooperation between KUL and EPFL on the numerical integration of Sommerfeld integrals (SI). Each institution is well-known for developing specific techniques suited for the evaluation of SI: double-exponential quadratur ...

A generic integral equation and method of moments formulation is presented for laterally bounded stratified media including planar metallization. The main asset of the developed approach is its flexibility, as it encompasses generic lateral boundary condit ...

The Degree of Non-Linearity (DNL) of scattering problems and specifically of differential Microwave Imaging (dMWI) problems is addressed in this paper. The quantification of the DNL amounts to evaluate the validity range of the Born first order (linear) ap ...

In this paper, a software tool for the prediction of the corona discharge and the multipactor thresholds in passive components based on rectangular geometry for space applications is presented. The software tool has been compare to measurements showing a ve ...

This paper presents the design, optimization, and experimental characterization of a planar antenna subarray for space applications. The proposed component is intended to be used as a building block for a large Ka-band antenna systems. It is a one-dimensio ...

A Ka-band transition between a rectangular waveguide and a suspended stripline (SSL) is proposed. It uses a configuration in which the SSL substrate is perpendicular to the waveguide main axis. A patch printed on the SSL substrate is used to match the char ...

This communication introduces a modified substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), the gap SIW, and deduces an approximate closed-form expression for calculating its effective width, taking into account the fringing and coupling fields around the gap. As an im ...

The disposal of an equivalent network representation to characterize the frequency behavior of grounded periodic arrays of printed patches is here combined with the assistance of full-wave electromagnetic simulator to achieve a very efficient method for an ...

A direct integration algorithm, based on double exponential-type quadrature rules, is presented for the efficient computation of the Sommerfeld integral tails, arising in the evaluation of multilayered Green's functions. The proposed scheme maintains the e ...

An iterative algorithm to synthesize uniform amplitude focused beam arrays is presented. While the number of array elements and the excitations are fixed and known, the locations of the elements are optimized to radiate a narrow beam low sidelobe pattern. ...

This book assembles coverage on all aspects of MIMO technology along with up-to-date information on key related issues. Contributors from leading academic and industrial institutions across the globe share their expertise and lend the book a global perspective. They lead readers gradually from basic to more advanced concepts, from propagation modeling and performance analysis to space-time codes, various systems, implementation options and limitations, practical system development considerations, field tria

Resonant graphene antennas used as true interfaces between terahertz (THz) space waves and a source/detector are presented. It is shown that in addition to the high miniaturization related to the plasmonic nature of the resonance, graphene-based THz antenna favorably compare with typical metal implementations in terms of return loss and radiation efficiency. Graphene antennas will contribute to the development of miniature, efficient, and potentially transparent all-graphene THz transceivers for emerging co

A novel dual-band polarization-independent transmitarray is introduced in this paper for communication systems in Ka-band. Thanks to its unit-cell topology, the transmitarray antenna demonstrates almost complete independent performance at two design freque ...

We propose and characterize graphene quantum capacitors, tunable with voltage by the control of their charge density, for tunable LC tanks as essential building blocks for Radio-Frequency (RF) functions in densely integrated circuits. We fabricate and inve ...

This paper presents new contributions to the modeling and design of reflecting cells embedding discrete control elements such as microelectromechanical system (MEMS) or diodes. First, a rigorous assessment of the different possibilities to simulate and mea ...

This work presents a new rigorous investigation of corona effects in microstrip components. To carry out the investigation, a new software tool has been developed. The new tool first calculates the electromagnetic fields in complex microstrip structures us ...

The direct evaluation method tailored to the 4-D singular integrals arising in the second-kind Fredholm surface integral equation formulations is presented. The proposed semi-analytical integration scheme extends the existing singularity cancellation metho ...

The direct evaluation method tailored to the 4-D singular integrals over vertex adjacent triangles, arising in the first-kind and second-kind Fredholm surface integral equation formulations, is presented. A combination of singularity cancellation, reorderi ...

The concept and analysis of a THz frequency-reconfigurable antennas using graphene are presented. The antennas exploit dipole-like plasmonic resonances that can be frequency-tuned on large range via the electric field effect in a graphene stack. In additio ...
