Electron transfer and subsequent charge separation across donor-acceptor heterojunctions remain the most important areas of study in the field of third-generation photovoltaics. In this context, it is particularly important to unravel the dynamics of indiv ...

We synthesized a series of Ru(II) metal complexes TFRS-1, -2, -4, -21, -22 and -24 with a single 4,40- dicarboxylic acid-2,20-bipyridine together with two functionalized pyridyl azolate ancillary ligands consisting of pyrazolate or triazolate groups. Both ...

Efficient dye-sensitized solar cells are based on highly diffusive mesoscopic layers that render these devices opaque and unsuitable for ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy measurements in transmission mode. We developed a novel sub-200 femtosecond time-resolved diffuse reflectance spectroscopy scheme combined with potentiostatic control to study various solar cells in fully operational condition. We studied performance optimized devices based on liquid redox electrolytes and opaque TiO2 films, as w

We elaborated a new electrolyte composition, based on butyronitrile solvent, that exhibits low volatility for use in dye-sensitized solar cells. The strong point of this new class of electrolyte is that it combines high efficiency and excellent stability p ...

Post-treatment of mesoporous titanium dioxide films by TiCl4 solutions is commonly applied during the fabrication of solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (ssDSCs), as this operation markedly improves the performance of the photovoltaic device. The effect ...

An efficient, visible light active, N, S-codoped TiO2-based photocatalyst was prepared by reacting thiourea with nanoparticulate anatase TiO2. Commercial anatase powders were manually ground with thiourea and annealed at 400 degrees C in two crucibles with ...

The phase diagram of the redox active ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide (PMII) is examined as a function of temperature and iodine concentration. Beyond a threshold concentration of 3.9 M, the formation of higher polyiodides gives rise to a ...

The mechanisms behind the large photocarrier diffusion length and the outstanding photovoltaic performances of lead halide perovskites (LHP) are still debated. Hot carrier cooling and the formation of polarons are central to the charge separation process. ...

Strongly confined, fully inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals are of great promise for light-emitting devices in the blue spectral range owing to their high photoluminescence quantum yields. A combination of broadband fluorescence up-conver ...

In dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs), ultrafast electron injection from a photoexcited molecular sensitizer into the conduction band of a wide- bandgap semiconductor is key to efficient charge separation. According to the current understanding of DSCs functioning, charges are separated directly during this primary electron transfer process, yielding mobile hot conduction band electrons in the solid and holes localized on oxidized dye molecules at the surface. Basing on combined femtosecond transient absorpt

Nanostructured TiO2 hollow fibers have been prepared using natural cellulose fibers as a template. This cheap and easily processed material was used to produce highly porous photoanodes incorporated in dye-sensitized solar cells and exhibited remarkably en ...

Selenium (Se) nanowires have generated much interest both for the fundamental understanding of crystal formation and growth and for technological applications in optoelectronics, imaging, piezoelectricity, catalysis, and energy harvesting and storage. Seve ...

Copper indium sulfide quantum dots (QDs) have attracted substantial attention in recent years due to environmental issues and diverse applications. We report the synthesis and characterization of copper-zinc-indium-sulfide (CZIS) QDs and CZIS treated with ...

Broadband transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy, three-pulse photon echo peak shift (3PEPS), and anisotropy decay measurements were used to study the solvation dynamics in bulk water and interfacial water at ZrO2 surfaces, using Eosin Y as a probe. The 3P ...

The outstanding photovoltaic performances of lead halide perovskite (LHP) thin film solar cells are due in particular to the large diffusion length of photocarriers. The mechanism behind this property and its dependence on the various anions and cations in the LHP material composition are still an active topic of debate. Here, we apply ultrabroadband terahertz spectroscopy with a time resolution < 200 fs to probe the early carrier mobility dynamics of photoexcited perovskite samples of different chemical

Nanostructured liquid|solid and solid|solid bulk heterojunctions designed for the conversion of solar energy offer ideal models for the investigation of light-induced ET dynamics at surfaces. Despite significant study of processes leading to charge generat ...

Copper redox mediators can be employed in dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs) both as liquid electrolytes or as solid state hole transport materials (HTMs). The solid state devices that employ copper complex HTMs can be simply obtained by solvent evaporation ...

Dye-sensitized nanocrystalline solar cells (DSC) have received considerable attention as a cost-effective alternative to conventional solar cells. One of the main factors that has hampered widespread practical use of DSC is the poor thermostability encount ...

2D perovskites has become a major topic in the field of perovskite optoelectronics. Here, we aim to unravel the ultrafast dynamics governing the evolution of charge carriers and excitons. We use a combination of ultrabroadband time-resolved THz spectroscopy (TRTS) and fluorescence upconversion spectroscopy to observe and model this evolution. We find that sequential carrier cooling and exciton formation best explain the observed dynamics, where exciton-exciton interactions play an important role in the form

Over the past 20 years, ruthenium(II)-based dyes have played a pivotal role in turning dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) into a mature technology for the third generation of photovoltaics. However, the classic I3−/I− redox couple limits the performance and application of this technique. Simply replacing the iodine-based redox couple by new types like cobalt(3+/2+) complexes was not successful because of the poor compatibility between the ruthenium(II) sensitizer and the cobalt redox species. To address this
