Abatement of trichloroethylene (TCE, 250 ppm in air) was studied in a novel nonthermal plasma (NTP) dielectric barrier discharge reactor with an inner electrode made of sintered metal fibers (SMF). The SMF electrodes modified with TiO2 and MnO2 were observ ...

We present 100?% selectivity to p-chloroaniline through the continuous gas-phase (atmospheric pressure; T=393523 K) catalytic hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene over an activated Cu?Al (molar Cu/Al ratio 3:1) hydrotalcite. The synthesis by continuous co-precipitation and application of a Cu?Ni?Al (atomic Cu/Ni/Al ratio 2.75:0.25:1) catalyst is also described. Temperature-programmed reduction in hydrogen and XPS analyses of the ternary catalyst suggest Cu?Ni interaction with no evidence of (bulk) alloy fo

Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP)-stabilized Pd nanocubes were synthesized, deposited on a carbon-based support, and subsequently treated with UV-ozone (UVO) in order to eliminate the traces of PVP still present on the surface. Cubes, being a thermodynamically unfavorable shape, are very prone to restructuring to minimize the interfacial free energy and thus allow the assessment of their morphological stability during UVO cleaning. The process of PVP removal was monitored by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS

Interaction of V2O5 with TiO2 during prepn. of V/Ti-oxide catalysts via solid-state reaction was studied using in situ FT-Raman spectroscopy, HRTEM and XPS. This interaction results in the formation of monomeric vanadia species with vanadium in tetrahedral coordination. The bridging O in the V-O-Ti bond is responsible for the catalytic activity during the partial oxidn. of toluene. The formation of the monomeric vanadia species correlates with the improved catalyst performance, characterized by reaction rat

A novel composite material based on carbon nanofibers (CNF) grown on sintered metal fibers (SMFInconel) filter was investigated for its favorable properties as catalytic support. The CNF were formed directly over the SMFInconel by thermal (650 degrees C) c ...

A novel design of microstructured membrane reactor with micro-channels formed between closely packed catalytic filaments is reported. The system comprises filaments of 7 mm in diam. and has a laminar flow with a short radial diffusion time. This leads to low pressure drop and to a narrow residence time distribution (RTD) during reactor operation. The latter device in combination with a membrane permeable to hydrogen is used in non-oxidative propane dehydrogenation. The catalytic filaments of Pt/Sn on alumin

The batch liquid phase hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene over MO2N resulted in the sole formation of p-chloroaniline. Incorporation of Au nanoparticles (mean size = 8 nm) enhanced hydrogen uptake with a fourfold increase in rate, retention of ultraselectivity with stability over repeated reaction cycles. Reaction exclusivity to p-chloroaniline extended to continuous gas phase operation where Au/MO2N outperformed Au/Al2O3 as a benchmark. Under the same conditions, Pd/MO2N was non-selective, generating ni

The influence of potassium on the formation of surface vanadia species on V/Ti oxide catalysts contg. from 0.2 to 5 monolayers of vanadia (K/V at. surface ratio ?1) has been investigated by temp. programmed redn. in hydrogen and by FT-Raman spectroscopy under dehydrated conditions. In the pure catalysts, monomeric and polymeric (metavanadate-like) species, "amorphous" and bulk cryst. V2O5 were detected depending on the surface vanadia loading. In the K-doped catalysts, vanadia species formed on the surfac

The use of glass fibers in the form of woven cloth (GFC), as a new type of catalytic support, was studied for the reduction of aqueous nitrate solutions using a Pd/Cu–GFC catalyst. The activity (per gram Pd) and selectivity to nitrogen were found to be comparable with those found for Pd–Cu catalysts supported on the other carriers. The maximal initial removal activity was found for a catalyst with a Pd/(Pd+Cu) ratio of 0.81. The corresponding activity was 0.7 mmol min-1 (gPd)-1, and the selectivity was 97 m

Different glass fibers in woven forms were used as supports for Pt and Pd catalysts and were tested in toluene and CO total oxidn. at atm. pressure. The catalytic activity and the ignition-extinction temps. were investigated in relation to chem. compn. of the supports, the types of active metal used (Pt, Pd), and the surface concn. of the metal. The exptl. results suggest the modified glass fibers as suitable supports for efficient catalysts for complete oxidn. The catalysts can be used at moderate temps. (

The catalytic properties of Pd and Pt supported on woven glass fabrics were explored for liq.-phase hydrogenation of benzaldehyde as a model for three-phase catalytic reaction. The catalysts demonstrated high activity and are suitable materials to be used in reactors with structured catalytic bed. The main characteristics of catalytic bed are discussed. [on SciFinder (R)]

Partial oxidn. of toluene on V/Ti oxide catalysts is a reaction of industrial interest. In spite of the detailed study of the nature of surface vanadia species, there is an evident lack of the information concerning their reactivity. The present work demonstrates an application of the transient response techniques in combination with "in situ" DRIFT and FT-Raman spectroscopy for the discrimination of the reactivity of different vanadia species. Catalysts consisting of 0.35-3.7 monolayers of vanadia on tit

Catalytic hydrogenation of NO2- in water to N2 over Pd-supported on different woven fibrous materials was studied. Low porosity C fiber, low porosity D-type glass fiber, and composite (glass covered by g-Al2O3) fiber were used. Pd dispersion was compared for different supports at various Pd loadings and correlated with catalytic activity. NH3 as an undesired byproduct was also obsd. and main parameters to suppress its formation are discussed. A reactor concept based on woven fibrous catalysts is suggested a

The structure sensitivity of acetylene hydrogenation was studied over size-controlled cubic and octahedral Pd nanocrystals (NCs) supported on ZnO and SiO2. Acetylene hydrogenation was found to be structure sensitive [with Pd(111) in octahedra being more ac ...

Uniform Pd nanocrystals of cubic, octahedral and cube-octahedral shapes were synthesized via a solution-phase method using two stabilizers: poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and di-2-ethylhexylsulfoccinate (AOT) and tested in the hydrogenation of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol. The AOT-stabilized Pd nanocrystals were found to be an order of magnitude more active, but less selective than those stabilized by PVP. This could be attributed to a stronger interaction of PVP with surface Pd by adsorbed N-containing groups. Th

Efficient structured catalysts of partial methane oxidation into synthesis gas were obtained by electrochemical modification of the surface of sintered FeCrAl alloy fibers in an ionic liquid BMIM-NTf, with further introduction of platinum nanoparticles. It ...

The photocatalytic activity of TiO2–SiO2-coated cotton textiles was investigated through the self-cleaning of red wine stains. It was shown that a TiO2–SiO2 species could be produced at temperatures of 100 °C with acceptable photo-activity on non-heat resi ...

2,2′-Bipyridine (bipy) and an imidazolium-functionalized bipy ligand were used in the synthesis of palladium nanoparticles in water and in ionic liquid. The function of such ligands was twofold: first, as stabilizing agents to prevent the agglomeration of ...

One-step hydroxylation of benzene to phenol by N2O has been performed over structured catalytic beds made of ZSM-5 coatings on stainless steel grids. The catalysts demonstrated high activity with a selectivity toward phenol formation of 98%. A detailed kinetic study was carried out with a variation in reactant concentrations, benzene/N2O ratio, and residence time. The results obtained suggest a surface reaction between benzene and nitrous oxide adsorbed on two different active sites.
