Background. The small characteristic sizes (in the range of 102 - 103 μm) of Microstructured reactors (MSR) lead to very high specific interfacial area which, in turn, increases heat- and mass transfer efficiency. However, for quasi instantaneous exothermic reactions, the overall reaction kinetics in MSR is strongly influenced by mixing. The characteristic time of the latter phenomenon varies from millisecond to seconds depending on the operating conditions used. If mixing is the rate determining step for h

This study addresses the development of a compact reactor for oxidative steam-reforming of methanol (OSRM) to produce hydrogen in autothermal mode for fuel cells. The string reactor uses catalytically active brass wires with a diameter of 500 mu m placed i ...

A non-thermal plasma rector with a catalytic electrode made of sintered metal fibres (SMFs) was tested for the oxidative decomposition of a model VOC toluene. The input energy was varied in the range 160-295 J/I by varying the applied voltage between 12.5 ...

We have carried out a systematic investigation of the critical activation parameters (i.e., final temperature (673-1273 K), atmosphere (He vs. O-2/He), and final isothermal hold (1 min-15 h) on the generation of "alpha-sites", responsible for the direct N2 ...

Catalytic purification of air containing 250 ppm of toluene assisted by non-thermal plasma was carried out with a novel dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor with an inner electrode made of sintered metal fibers (SMF). The optimization of the reactor ...

The synthesis of catalytically active bimetallic Au-Pd nanoparticles stabilized in hyper-cross-linked polystyrene (HPS) for Suzuki cross-coupling of 4-bromoanisole (4-BrAn) and phenylboronic acid is presented. The core-shell structure with a thin (less tha ...

We have investigated the catalytic effect of the beta-phase PdZn alloy on selective gas-phase hydrogenation of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol over Pd/ZnO using Pd/Al2O3 as a benchmark. Activation (in H-2) of Pd/ZnO to 973 K generated a beta-phase PdZn alloy (from X ...

Small nanosized clusters of Co3O4 coated on PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) flexible film is reported as a novel supported photocatalyst effective in the fast discoloration of the azo-dye Orange II under simulated solar radiation in the presence of oxone (2 ...

The catalytic action of Mo2N and Au/Mo2N has been assessed in the selective gas phase hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene (p-CNB) to p-chloroaniline (p-CAN). The nitrides were synthesised via temperature programmed treatment of MoO3 in H-2 + N-2 and Au introduced by deposition-precipitation with urea. We have examined the influence of nitride crystallographic phase (tetragonal beta-Mo2N vs. cubic gamma-Mo2N) and surface area (7-66 m(2) g(-1)) on the catalytic response. Catalyst activation by temperature p

The stability of Au/Al2O3 in the continuous gas phase (423 K) hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene (p-CNB) to p-chloroaniline (p-CAN) has been investigated over an inlet H-2/p-CNB = 4-390, i.e. from close to stoichiometry to H2 far in excess. The catalyst ...

We report the promoting effect of Zn on performance of Pt-based catalyst in liquid-phase hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene (3-NS) to 3-vinylaniline (3-VA). Bimetallic Pt-Zn nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared within the hypercross-linked polystyrene (HPS) supp ...

This study presents the detailed nature of iron clusters formed on Fe3+-Nafion membranes. The catalytic nature of these clusters during immobilized Fenton processes was observed to be a function of the deposition method of Fe ions on the Nafion. The nonbiodegradable azo-dye Orange II and 2-propanol were utilized as convenient organic model compounds in photoassisted Fenton degradation processes. The highest photocatalytic activity was observed when samples were prepared by ion exchange between iron(III) aqu

Novel efficient structured combustion catalysts based on sintered metal fiber filters (MFF) were developed. To increase sp. surface area (SSA), metal fibers were coated by crack-free porous oxide films of SiO2, Al2O3, porous glass, and mesoporous SBA-15 silica. The composite materials presented uniform open macrostructure of the non-treated MFF filters and were suitable supports for deposition of catalytically active phases (Pd, Pt, and Co3O4). These catalysts were tested in hydrocarbon (CH4, C3H8) combusti

The structure sensitivity of acetylene hydrogenation on catalysts with controlled shape of palladium nanoparticles was studied. Palladium particles of cubic (Pd-cub), cuboctahedral (Pd-co) and octahedral (Pd-oct) shapes were obtained by a colloidal method. ...

We have studied the gas phase continuous hydrogenation of m-dinitrobenzene (m-DNB) over acid treated activated carbon (AC) supported Au and Ag prepared by deposition-precipitation. Temperature programmed reduction of a 1%wt. metal loading generated a broad ...

A tetragonal molybdenum nitride (beta-Mo2N) has been prepared by temperature programmed treatment of MoO3 in flowing N-2 + H-2 and for the first time shown to catalyze the liquid phase selective hydrogenation (T = 423 K; P-H2 = 11 bar) of a series of para-substituted (-H, -OH, -O-CH3, -CH3, -Cl, -I and -NO2) nitrobenzenes to give the corresponding aromatic amine. Reaction over Pd/Al2O3, as a benchmark catalyst (Pd particle size ca. 18 nm), resulted in a composite hydrodechlorination/hydrogenation of p-chlor

Hydrogenation of 2-butyne-1,4-diol catalyzed by Pd nanoparticles on activated carbon fibers (ACFs) was studied. The ACF support in the form of woven fabrics provides the basis for structured catalytic fixed beds. In the present study, this catalyst was int ...

Gold nanoparticles of 2–5 nm supported on woven fabrics of activated carbon fibers (ACF) were effective during CO oxidation at room temperature. To obtain a high metal dispersion, Au was deposited on ACF from aqueous solution of ethylenediamine complex [Au(en)2]Cl3 via ion exchange with protons of surface functional groups. The temperature-programmed decomposition method showed the presence of two main types of functional groups on the ACF surface: the first type was associated with carboxylic groups easily

Monodispersed Pd nanoparticles (8, 11, and 13 nm in iameter) as confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy were prepared via the reverse microemulsion method and deposited on structured supports consisting of carbon nanofibers (CNF) grow ...

Hydrogen production by non-thermal plasma (NTP) assisted direct decomposition of hydrogen sulfide was carried out in a novel dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor with the inner electrode made of sintered metal fibers (SMF) also functioning as catalys ...
