A new type of Nafion/Fe structured membrane ensuring faster kinetics, higher efficiency, and mechanical properties has been prepared and will be compared in its performance with the Fe-exchanged commercial Dupont 117 Nafion/Fe membrane during the abatement of model organic compounds. During the casting of the laboratory Nafion sample, the iron ions were introduced directly into the Nafion oligomer solution. This novel laboratory Nafion/Fe was tested as an immobilized catalyst in the degradation of several t

This study addresses unreported features for Cu DC-magnetron sputtering on cotton mediating inactivation of Escherichia coil K12 (from now on E. coil). In-depth profile for the different Cu-species inside the cotton fibers was determined by 5 key Ar+ etchi ...

Novel micro-structured string-reactor designed as catalytically active wires placed in parallel into a tube was developed. The small diam. of the channels (.apprx.100 mm) leads to a short radial diffusion time, a narrow residence time distribution, and a low pressure drop. This reactor was applied for the oxidative steam-reforming of methanol to produce hydrogen in autothermal mode for fuel cells. The heat generated during methanol oxidn. at the reactor entrance is axially transferred to the reactor zone of

Quasi-instantaneous exothermic reactions lead to the formation of unwanted hot spots even when carried out in conventional microstructured reactors (MSR) with tube diameter of 100 − 1000 μm. For this reason, alternative MSR designs are warranted to enable ...

The promoting effect of Zn on Pt-based catalyst was studied for the liquid-phase hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene (3-NS). The monodispersed Pt nanoparticles (ca. 2.3 nm) supported on ZnO catalyzed the target 3-vinylaniline (3-VA) formation (S3-VA = 97% at X ...

Transient response and temperature-programmed desorption/reaction (TPD/TPR) methods were used to study the formation of adsorbed NOx from N2O and its effect during N2O decomposition to O2 and N2 over FeZSM-5 catalysts at temperatures below 653 K. The react ...

The chemoselective three-phase hydrogenation of an Ombrabulinintermediate based on a nitro-stilbene framework was used as a case study for the formation of the primary amine without affecting the double bond. Two catalysts were tested: Pt nanoparticles sup ...

Detailed thermodynamic and kinetic study of the aqueous Kolbe-Schmitt synthesis of beta-resorcylic acid has been carried out in a laboratory-scale batch reactor operated under ambient pressure. The dependence of the conversion on partial pressure of carbon dioxide (4 x 10(-4) - 1 bar), initial concentration of resorcinol (0.4-0.8 M), initial concentration of potassium bicarbonate (0.4-6 M) and temperature (348-428 K) was studied. The reaction was found to be reversible and exothermic (Delta H = -30.4 kJ/mol

The low-pressure cold microwave (MW) plasma is shown as an efficient method to increase acidity of the ACF within less than 1 min treatment without affecting the fiber morphol. and strength. The ion-exchange capacity was 1.6 times higher compared to the no ...

The repetitive discoloration kinetics of the azo-dye Methyl Orange (taken as a model organic compound) was followed under solar simulated radiation (90 mW/cm2) to assess the performance of the TiO2/Tedlar® composite photocatalyst. The influence of solution ...

A novel catalytic reactor with dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) at atmospheric pressure was developed for the abatement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The novelty of DBD reactor is the metallic catalyst serving also as the inner electrode. The cat ...

Nanostructured C-based catalysts have been developed to be used in continuously operated (open-flow) reactors for the removal of bromates and nitrates from polluted water. The catalysts contain transition-metal (Pd, Cu, and Sn) nanoparticles (NPs) supporte ...

In the frame of DFT paradigms, the adsorption of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (MBY) and 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol (MBE) on a Pd-30 cluster, including both {100} and {111} faces, was studied along with the pathways involved in the hydrogenation, taking place on plane ...

This study aimed at the development of active and stable structured catalyst for the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide under industrial conditions. Sintered metal fibers of stainless steel (SMFss) in the form of flat panels were surface coated by differen ...

The deactivation kinetics of a V/Ti oxide catalyst were studied in partial oxidn. of toluene to PhCHO and PhCO2H at 523-573 K. The catalyst consists of a monolayer of VOx species, and after oxidative pretreatment, contains isolated monomeric and polymeric metavanadate-like vanadia species under dehydrated conditions as was shown by FT Raman spectroscopy. Under the reaction conditions via in situ DRIFTS, fast formation of adsorbed carboxylate and benzoate species was obsd. accompanied by disappearance of the

A temperature programmed treatment of MoO3 in flowing N-2 + H-2 has been employed to prepare beta-phase molybdenum nitride (beta-Mo2N) which has been used to promote, for the first time, the catalytic hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene. The reduction/ni ...

Microreactor technology, an important method of process intensification, offers numerous potential benefits for the process industries. Fluid–fluid reactions with mass transfer limitations have already been advantageously carried out in small-scale geometries. In liquid–liquid microstructured reactors (MSR), alternating uniform slugs of the twophase reaction mixture exhibit well-defined interfacial mass transfer areas and flow patterns. The improved control of highly exothermic and hazardous reactions is al

Encapsulation of metal nanoclusters in porous solid polymer materials is a promising approach to combine the outstanding properties of both, heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. We report heterogeneous nano-engineered catalysts containing Pd-nanopartic ...

Parylene films loaded with TiO2 are reported as hotocatalysts in azo dye discoloration processes. The TiO2 loading of the parylene film was 0.32% (w/w) and the amount of TiO2 on the film was about two orders of magnitude below the TiO2 added in suspension ...

Metal nickel and copper grids are shown to be suitable supports for structured combustion catalysts. The increase of sp. surface area (SSA) of metal grids was achieved due to the porous outer layer with the structure of Raney metal developed on the wire surface. Transition metals (Co, Cu, Mn, Cr) oxides were deposited as active components on the pre-oxidized support and tested in total propane oxidn. Cobalt oxide demonstrated the highest activity. Reductive pre-treatment in the flow of hydrogen resulted in
