This paper presents a microelectronic emulation approach for high-speed power system computation. First, the problems of existing power system simulators are detailed. This shows that microelectronic emulation is a possible solution for solving the speed p ...

This paper focuses on a new pipelined processing unit architecture dedicated to mixed-signal power system emulation. Prior research in this field has proven that analog emulation overcomes the speed limits of numerical simulators with reliable accuracy. Th ...

This paper presents a SOI Hall sensor based microsystem for energy measurement. The mixed-mode signal circuitry has been entirely designed and integrated in the experimental 0.5 mu m fully depleted SOI 3 V technology. It consists of an integrated Hall elem ...

Coupled inductors can be used as tunable inductances. Employing coupled inductors in the output impedance matching network of an RF power amplifier leads to superior performance when operating in more than one frequency band. As proof of this concept, the ...

An application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) named ANTIGONE (ANalog To dIGital cONvErter) was designed in AMS 0.35 mu m technology to interface with four Ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) sensors and perform real-time monitoring of some bi ...

is paper presents a voltage-to-current converter as a current-mode output buffering stage for sensor interfaces. The converter can be used in any microsystem needing a current output. It is presented here in the context of a Hall sensor microsystem. The system is fully differential with an output stage that converts a discrete input voltage into a continuous current. The Hall sensor microsystem, using the voltage-to-current back-end, has been fabricated and measured in a 0.35 μm CMOS technology. The entire

A highly sensitive magnetic sensor microsystem based on a flail device is presented. This microsystem consists of a Hall device improved by an integrated magnetic concentrator and new circuit architecture for the signal processing. It provides an amplification of the sensor signal with a resolution better than 30 muV and a periodic offset cancellation while the output of the microsystem is available in continuous time. This microsystem features the overall magnetic gain of 420 V/T.

A novel DAC architecture based on a sub-binary radix converter is presented. By calibrating digitally the nonlinear sub-binary converter, it is possible to use it as a high-precision, high-resolution digital-to-analog converter. The analog part of the new DAC doesn't need precise components. It becomes thus possible to build high-performance DACs on a small area, neither requiring aggressive analog design nor highly matched components. By relaxing the constraints on the analog part, this new topology is ver

Standard techniques used for measuring the photocurrent of an SOI phototransistor have failed due to two main reasons: the first being the low signal-to-noise ratio and the second being the slow transient. In this paper, the partially depleted silicon on i ...

This paper presents a switched-capacitor simulator, optimized for fast computations. Two CAD tools are implemented in order to perform Monte-Carlo simulations, to identify sensitive parasitic coupling prior to layout and to rapidly verify parasitic couplin ...

A new methodology for modeling minority carriers diffusion in Smart Power ICs substrate using standard circuit simulators has been proposed by EPFL. For this purpose, a parasitic substrate network consisting of lumped elements is extracted from the circuit ...

The paper describes the design of optimized PCB air-core toroids for high frequency DC-DC converters with strict requirements in terms of volume and noise. The effect of several design parameters on the overall inductor volume, on DC and AC winding resista ...

This paper explores the potential of VeFETs for mixed-signal circuits. A new physics-based compact DC model of the VeSFET operated in subthreshold region is presented and used to derive 1st-order sensitivities of the device threshold voltage to process var ...

The influence of the geometry, via the ratio L/W of the Hall cells and the geometrical correction factor G on several figures of merit regarding Hall sensors is analyzed, namely the sensitivity, Hall Voltage and power dissipated within the device. Experime ...

We present a radiation-tolerant 120 dB dynamic-range interface circuit for ionization chambers and diamond detectors. The device consists of a multi-scale continuous-time incremental charge-to-digital converter paired with a temperature-compensated current ...

A 9.4MHz micro-electromechanical oscillator based on a Vibrating Body Field Effect Transistor (VB-FET) is presented in this work. The tuning fork VB-FET used in this work provides a high quality factor of 9400 in the open-loop configuration and a low equiv ...

A new technique for driving silicon-on-insulator pixel matrixes has been proposed in [1], which was based on transient charge pumping for evacuating the extra photo-generated charges from the body of the transistor. An 8×8 pixel matrix was designed and fabricated using the above technique. In this paper, the measurement set-up is described and the performance evaluation procedure is given, together with results of its implementation on the fabricated pixel matrix. The results show the applicability of the c

The growing demand for the solid-state meters for power and energy measurement leads to the fully integrated Hall-sensor-based microsystem solutions. In this paper, a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) Hall-sensor-based. microsystem for energy measurements with dy ...

An automatic offset compensation scheme for 2 stages operational amplifier is described. The presented technique can be applied to an existing OA core cell without modifying its design. Offset voltage is reduced by digitally adjusting the resulting offset current at the node between the first and second OA stages. A background calibration is achieved by using a ping-pong structure that improves the temperature stability and an on-demand calibration is also provided. The proposed circuit has been fabricated

The emerging field of power system emulation for real time smart grid management is very demanding in terms of speed and accuracy. This paper provides detailed information about the electronics calibration process of a high-speed power network emulator dedicated to the transient stability analysis of power systems. This emulator uses mixed-signal hardware to model the dynamic behavior of a power network. Special design allows the self-calibration of the analog electronics through successive measurements and
