We highlight the effect of the interfacial charge-transfer resistance at the counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells based on two cobalt redox shuttles, namely cobalt(III/II) tris(2,2'-bipyridine) and cobalt(III/II) tris(1,10-phenanthroline). Highl ...

A comprehensive theoretical study on the electronic absorption spectra of a representative group of organic dyes (L0, D4, D5, C217, and JK2) employed in dye-sensitized solar cell devices is reported. A benchmark evaluation on different time-dependent densi ...

Recent research on photoanodes for photoelectrochemical water splitting has introduced the concept of under-and overlayers for the activation of ultrathin hematite films. Their effects on the photocatalytic behavior were clearly shown; however, the mechani ...

Photoelectrochemical water splitting provides a promising solution for harvesting and storing solar energy. As the best-performing oxide photocathode, the Cu2O photocathode holds the performance rivaling that of many photovoltaic semiconductor-based photoc ...

For a sustainable future, efficient solar energy harvesting and storage is required. Solar hydrogen production from photoelectrochemical water splitting is a promising technology and, in particular, cuprous oxide photocathodes are interesting photoelectrod ...

In this work, we report the use of bulky substitutions in a new heteroleptic ruthenium(II) bipyridine complex, Ru(NCS)(2)LL', coded TT-230 to obtain high open-circuit potential in a dye-sensitized solar cell (where L is a bipyridine ligand appended with tw ...

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) consisting of interfacial two- and three-dimensional heterostructures that incorporate ammonium ligand intercalation have enabled rapid progress toward the goal of uniting performance with stability. However, as the field cont ...

We report a pump–probe spectroscopy study of electron injection rates in dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) devices. We examine the case of working devices employing an N719 ruthenium sensitizer and an iodide electrolyte. Electron injection is found to occur ...

Solution-processed α-FAPbI3 perovskite films frequently exhibit structural defects and impurities that impede the durable operation of solar cells. In this study, we introduced a conformationally stable, sterically bulky molecular passivator, bicyclo[1.1.1 ...

A unique solar cell fabrication procedure has been developed using natural anthocyanin dyes extracted from berries. It can be reproduced with a minimum amount of resources in order to provide an interdisciplinary approach for lower-division undergraduate students learning the basic principles of biological extraction, physical chemistry, and spectroscopy as well as environmental science and electron transfer. Electron transfer is the basis of the energetics that drives the processes of life on Earth, occurr

A simple cell architecture that achieves enhanced light harvesting with less dye quantity while simultaneously improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of dye-sensitized solar cells is presented. Polystyrene (PS) spheres of sub-micrometer size were ...

Novel highly active, optically-transparent electrode catalyst containing Pt, PtOx, graphene oxide and stacked graphene platelet nanofibers is developed for a cathode of Cu(II/I)-mediated dye-sensitized solar cells. The catalyst layer is deposited on a FTO ...

In this study, we used Hidden Interface-Indirect Nanoplasmonic Sensing (HI-INPS) for real time monitoring of dye impregnation (adsorption-diffusion process) of mesoporous TiO2 electrodes of the kind used in dye-sensitized solar cells. We measured the dye p ...

We present an experimentally validated coupled optical and electrical model for the dye-sensitized solar cell. The light absorption and subsequent charge generation in the photoactive layer is calculated accurately using coherent and incoherent optics. The charge generation function is then used as a source term in the electron continuity equation of the electrical model. The optical model allows to precisely analyze the reflection and absorbance losses in the individual layers. By comparing the calculated a

Ru(4,4-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine) (4,4'-bis(2-(4-(1,4,7,10-tetraoxyundecyl)phenyl)ethenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine) (NCS)(2), a new high molar extinction coefficient ion-coordinating ruthenium sensitizer was synthesized and characterized using H-1 NMR, Fou ...

A solution processable, molecular organic semiconductor, 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-pentacene), was employed as hole transport material (HTM) in mesoscopic methylammonium lead iodide perovskite solar cells. TIPS-pentacene is potenti ...

Mesoscopic solid-state solar cells based on the inorganic-organic hybrid perovskite CH(3)NH(3)Pbl(3) in conjunction with the amorphous organic semiconductor spiro-MeOTAD as a hole transport material (HIM) are investigated using impedance spectroscopy (IS). ...

Layered (2D) hybrid perovskites offer a promising alternative for stabilizing halide perovskite materials, with a growing interest in formamidinium (FA(+)) lead iodide derivatives for photovoltaics due to their exceptional optoelectronic properties. While ...

The effect of electronic and nuclear factors on the dynamics of dye-to-semiconductor electron transfer was studied employing RuII(terpy)(NCS)3 sensitizers grafted onto transparent films made of titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Various approaches were strive ...

The supramolecular assembly of Ru-bipyridine complex, coded Z-907Na, with single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) exhibits unique redox behavior, which is applicable for the nanotube wiring of LiFePO4 (olivine). Cyclic voltammograms of thin films of Z-907Na/S ...
