Herein, we present a simple microelectrode preparation methodology consisting in coating a platinum wire or a carbon fiber with a thin insulating Parylene C film (e.g. 1–10 μm), to produce SECM probes with a small and constant probe RG (i.e. ratio between ...

The fundamental aspects of electrochemistry at liquid–liquid interfaces are introduced to present the concept of molecular electrocatalysis. Here, a molecular catalyst is adsorbed at the interface to promote a proton coupled electron transfer reaction such ...

Charge transfer phenomena at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) are electrochemical reactions taking place in soft media. Owing to their liquid nature, the ITIES shows a large panel of electrochemical reactions including ele ...

A multielectrode setup for protein OFFGEL electrophoresis that significantly improves protein separation efficiency has been developed. Here, the electric field is applied by segments between seven electrodes connected in series to six independent power su ...

Background and Objectives: Red blood cells (RBCs) suffer from lesions during cold storage, depending in part on their ability to counterbalance oxidative stress by activating their antioxidant defence. The aim of this study was to monitor the antioxidant p ...

The interaction between an intact protein and two lipophilic ions at an oil-water interface has been investigated using cyclic voltammetry, impedance based techniques and a newly developed method in which the biphasic oil-water system is analyzed by biphasic electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (BESI-MS), using a dualchannel electrospray emitter. It is found that the protein forms interfacial complexes with the lipophilic ions and that it specifically requires the presence of the oil-water interface to

Finite element numerical simulations were carried out in 2D geometries to map the magnetic field and force distribution produced by rectangular permanent magnets as a function of their size and position with respect to a microchannel. A single magnet, two ...

The Mn(III)/Mn(II) redox couple with a standard potential of +1.51 V vs . SHE has drawn interest for the design of V/Mn redox flow battery (RFB). However, Mn(III) disproportionation leads to a loss of capacity, an increase of pressure drop and electrode pa ...

Fingerprint analysis is one of the most important methods used for personal identification of evidence found at a crime scene for forensic purposes. Using scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) imaging, researchers can visualize the ultrastructure of h ...

Molybdenum disulfide microparticles in suspension in an aqueous acidic solution adsorb at the interface with an organic electrolyte solution containing the reducing agent, decamethylferrocene, to catalyse hydrogen evolution. This catalytic process has been ...

This review article summarizes the different fields of research at the Laboratoire d'Electrochimie Physique et Analytique at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne. The research areas covered include charge transfer reactions at soft interfaces, bio- ...

Multi-stall fast charging stations are often thought to require megawatt-range grid connections. The power consumption profile of such stations results in high cost penalties due to monthly power peaks and expensive linkage fees. A local energy storage sys ...

This paper describes a novel tape platform ion sensing methodology specific to the detection of cadmium(II) ions in aqueous solution based on assisted ion transfer reactions across a polarized water | organic gel micro-interface. The tape ion sensors were ...

Wound biofilms represent a particularly challenging problem in modern medicine. They are increasingly antibiotic resistant and can prevent the healing of chronic wounds. However, current treatment and diagnostic options are hampered by the complexity of th ...

An automated fraction collection interface has been developed for coupling capillary electrophoresis (CE) with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS). This fraction collection approach is based on electromigration and diff ...

H2O2 is a versatile chemical and can be generated by the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton donor solution in molecular solvents or room temperature ionic liquids (IL). We investigated this reaction at interfaces formed by eleven hydrophobic ILs and ...

The heterodimer formed by electrostatic association of zinc(II) meso-tetrakis(N-methylpyridyl)porphyrin (ZnTMPyP) and zinc(II) meso-tetrakis(p-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (ZnTPPS) exhibits a strong affinity for the interface between water and 1,2-dichloroeth ...

Ultrathin polypeptide multilayer films are assembled by the sequential electrostatic adsorption of monolayers of poly-L-lysine and poly-L-glutamic acid onto carboxylic acid terminated alkanethiol-modified gold surfaces. The polypeptide multilayer films are ...

Disposable amperometric electrode chips enable the rapid, cost-effective and reliable monitoring of the concentration of analytes in fluidic samples. One example of high relevance in the health sector is the detection of hydrophilic antioxidants in fruit juices and biological fluids such as blood and saliva. In order to obtain highly reproducible electrodes at low cost and for small sample volumes, inkjet printing was used to prepare fully printed integrated electrode chips comprising a carbon nanotube work

This paper introduces the concept of ring magnets for magnetic beads (MBs) trapping in a capillary. Such magnets enable an easy insertion of a capillary simply like a pearl on a string. With this system, high magnetic forces are obtained thanks to the prox ...
