Although tremendous progress has been made in the diagnosis of melanoma, the identification of different stages of malignancy in a reliable way remains challenging. Current strategies rely on optical monitoring of the concentration and spatial distribution ...

Blowing bubbles: Hydrogen evolution by proton reduction with [(C5Me5)2Fe] occurs at a soft interface between water and 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE). The reaction proceeds by proton transfer assisted by [(C5Me5)2Fe] across the water–DCE interface with subsequen ...

Corrosion of carbon-based electrodes and bipolar plates is a major hurdle and can be a cause of failure in commercial vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). Carbon corrosion was found to occur in a commercial VRFB (10 kW/40 kWh), whereby cracks through bip ...

Perovskite solar cells with mesoporous TiO2 electron transport layers have previously reached >22 % efficiency at the laboratory scale (

A novel design for interdigitated band electrodes is described. The electrode is built by successive printing of conductive and insulating layers on a steel substrate. This geometry exhibits a high performance for the hypochlorite electrogeneration from seawater. The active chlorine concn. reached at the end of the electrolysis varies from 0.5 to 10 g L-1, depending on the no. of electrodes, their configuration in batch or single flow mode, the flow rate and the c.d. This geometry also limits scale developm

In this work, an Iodinated Contrast Medium (ICM), Iohexol, was subjected to treatment by 3 Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) (UV, UV/H2O2, UV/H2O2/Fe2+). Water, wastewater and urine were spiked with Iohexol, in order to investigate the treatment efficien ...

The assisted transfer of silver ion, Ag+, by complexation of Ag+ with the tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (TPBCl−) anion was studied at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES). The elucidation of the interfacial mechanisms employed the cyclic voltammetry technique applied to macro and micro liquid/liquid interfaces. This procedure allowed to identify Ag+ as the species which is transferred at the liquid/liquid interface and also the formation of an 1:2 metal:ligand complex when TPB

The Laboratoire d'Electrochimie Physique et Analytique (LEPA) has moved to the new Energypolis campus in Sion. This laboratory is involved in energy research in particular by studying charge transfer reactions at soft interfaces and developing interfacial redox electrocatalysis, by pioneering the concept of photo-ionic cells and by integrating redox flow batteries for the production of hydrogen at the pilot scale. Nonetheless, this laboratory has a long tradition in analytical chemistry with the development

Skin problems are often overlooked due to a lack of robust and patient-friendly monitoring tools. Herein, we report a rapid, noninvasive, and high-throughput analytical chemical methodology, aiming at real-time monitoring of skin conditions and early detec ...

The objectives of this study were to validate new experimental techniques used to measure the log P of protonated drugs, and to investigate the inter- and intramolecular forces influencing the partitioning behavior of β-blockers in isotropic biphasic solvent systems. The lipophilicity parameters of a number of β-blockers were measured by two-phase titration, centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in one or more of the following solvent systems: octanol/water, 1,2-dichloroeth

A compact, fast and general algorithm based on Dirichlet boundary conditions for the potential field is derived to enable the calculation of local current distribution, shunt currents and the local potential distribution on massive electrodes in electroche ...

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method of fabricating the apparatus for dispensing a sample for subsequent analysis by mass spectrometry. The apparatus comprises a polymer substrate (1), in which a covered microchannel (3) has been etched, a wall of the microchannel comprising an electrically conductive material (2) for applying a voltage allowing the sample to be sprayed into a mass spectrometer from the open end (4) of the microchannel. The present application also discloses various ap

A soft stylus microelectrode probe has been developed to carry out scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) of rough, tilted, and large substrates in contact mode. It is fabricated by first ablating a microchannel in a polyethylene terephthalate thin fil ...

The interaction of copper ions with peptides was investigated by electrospray mass spectrometry. Two electrospray micro-emitters were compared, the first one with a platinum electrode using a copper(II) electrolyte solution containing a peptide sample, and ...

Hyper Rayleigh scattering in solution is used for the determination of the first order hyperpolarizability b(colloid) of gold colloids in the size range 5–22 nm; these hyperpolarizabilities are found to range from 0.60 × 10–25 esu for 5 nm diameter colloids to up to 16.6 × 10–25 esu for 22 nm diameter colloids at the second harmonic wavelength of 532 nm; the strong size dependence of the hyperpolarisabilities reported here suggests that hyper Rayleigh scattering experiments can efficiently be used to calibr

Adsorption of charged species at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) is simulated taking into account both the mutual influence between the potential dependent surface excess charge and the potential distribution between the ...

Photocurrent responses associated with the interfacial quenching of the photo-excited water-soluble zinc meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (ZnTPPC) by ferrocene have been studied at a water|1,2-dichloroethane interface in the absence and in the presence ...

Antioxidant redox sensors based on DNA modified carbon screen-printed electrodes were developed. The carbon ink was doped with TiO2 nanoparticles, onto which double- strand DNA was adsorbed. A redox mediator, namely, tris- 2,2′-bipyridine ruthenium(II) [Ru ...
