Producing hydrogen from water using a redox mediator on solid electrocatalyst particles in a reactor offers several advantages over classical electrolysis in terms of safety, membrane degradation, purity and flexibility. Herein, vanadium-mediated hydrogen ...

The oxygen reduction reaction by decamethylferrocene (DMFc), triggered by hydrophilic metallic cations behaving as Lewis acids towards water molecules in a homogeneous organic phase reaction, was investigated using cyclic voltammetry at the water|1,2-dichl ...

Hydrogen produced from biomass and waste via plasma technologies offers a sustainable pathway for clean energy generation while addressing waste management challenges. This review examines recent advancements in plasma pyrolysis and gasification for hydrogen production, comparing thermal (microwave, gliding arc, plasma torches) and non-thermal (dielectric barrier discharge, glow discharge) plasmas. Beyond, summarizing recent developments, this review provides an integrated comparison of thermal and non-ther

Emulsification of immiscible two-phase fluids, i.e., one condensed phase dispersed homogeneously as tiny droplets in an outer continuous medium, plays a key role in medicine, food, chemical separations, cosmetics, fabrication of micro- and nanoparticles an ...

This paper reports a novel design of a miniaturized three-electrode electrochemical cell, the purpose of which is aimed at generating drug metabolites with a high conversion efficiency. The working electrode and the counter electrode are placed in two sepa ...

Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy has been used to investigate the electron-electron scattering dynamics in sulfate-covered gold nanoparticles of 2.5 and 9.2 nm in diameter. We observe an unexpected retardation of the absolute internal thermali ...

The structure of the polarised interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) has usually been deduced from electrocapillarity and capacitance measurements. However, these two methods only offer an indirect access to the surface change dens ...

Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFB) can be used as energy storage device, for example to account for wind or solar power fluctuations. In VRFBs charge is stored in two tanks containing two different vanadium solutions. This approach decouples the storage capacity and the power supply which is dependent only on the number and size of the cells [1]. A control specific model of a VRFB is proposed, which captures the essential dynamic properties of the battery while ignoring all fluid mechanical eleme

Functionalization of a soft or liquid-liquid interface by a one gold nanoparticle thick “nanofilm” provides a conductive pathway to facilitate interfacial electron transfer from a lipophilic electron donor to a hydrophilic electron acceptor in a process kn ...

Large-scale, sustainable, low-cost production of hydrogen can reduce the negative effects of climate change by decarbonising energy infrastructure. Low-carbon hydrogen can be synthesised via water electrolysis. Today, however, this only constitutes a minor ...

The concept of efficient electrolysis by linking photoelectrochemical biphasic H2 evolution and water oxidation processes in the cathodic and anodic compartments of an H-cell, respectively, is introduced. Overpotentials at the cathode and anode are minimis ...

Redox flow batteries (RFBs) are particularly well suited for storing the intermittent excess supply of renewable electricity; so-called “junk” electricity. Conventional RFBs are charged and discharged electrochemically, with electricity stored as chemical ...

The present work reports on the quantification of total IgE in human serum using a microanalytical device whose fluidics is driven by gravity and capillary forces only. Thanks to the eight parallel microchannels in each microchip, calibration and sample an ...

This paper focuses on contact electrification from thermodynamic equilibration of the electron electrochemical potentials of two conductors upon contact. The contact potential difference generated in bimetallic macro- and nanosystems, the Fermi level after ...

Transition metals incorporated into molybdenum sulfide and tungsten sulfide matrixes are promising candidates for hydrogen evolution due to the unique chemical and physical properties. Here, we first describe a general strategy for the synthesis of rod-lik ...

The photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 anatase nanoparticles were studied at the water|1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) interface under potentiostatic control. The interfacial concentration of the electrostatically stabilized particles can be effectively tuned by the Galvani potential difference and the pH of the aqueous phase. At pH values lower than that corresponding to the point of zero zeta potential, the particles assemble at the liquid|liquid boundary region upon positive polarization with respect to th

Herein, we present the large-scale fabrication of multiplexed three-electrode sensors used in a point-of-care device platform that couples a magnetic bead-based immunoassay strategy with amperometric detection for rapid and highly sensitive analysis. The m ...

The mechanism by which interfaces in solution can be polarised depends on the nature of the charge carriers. In the case of a conductor, the charge carriers are electrons and the polarisation is homogeneous in the plane of the electrode. In the case of an ...

Although electron transfer reactions at liquid liquid interfaces have been thoroughly studied in the presence of deliberately added potential determining ions or phase transfer catalysts, little is known about these reactions in the absence of the above sp ...
