Today's great challenges of energy and informational technologies are addressed with a singular compound, Li-and Na-doped few-layer graphene. All that is impossible for graphite (homogeneous and high-level Na doping) and unstable for single-layer graphene ...

The application of pressure to elemental bismuth reduces its conduction-valence band overlap, and results in a semimetal-semiconductor (SMSC) transition around 25 kbar. This transition is nominally of the topological "Lifshitz'' Fermi surface variety, but ...

Photosensitizers may convert molecular oxygen into reactive oxygen species (ROS) including, e.g., singlet oxygen (O-1(2)), superoxide anion (O-2(-center dot)), and hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot), chemicals with extremely high cyto- and potential gen ...

Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy is an important tool to characterize the ground state of conduction electrons and to measure their spin-relaxation times. Observing ESR of the itinerant electrons is thus of great importance in graphene and in sin ...

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoflowers were grown by a catalytic chemical vapor deposition process on metal surfaces. Electrodeposition was used as a versatile technique to obtain three different iron catalyst coatings on platinum microelec ...

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were successfully coated with tin-dioxide (SnO2) nanopartides using both hydrothermal process and sol-gel technique under different solvent conditions. The obtained MWCNTs/SnO2 nanocomposites had the weight ratio of t ...

Transition-metal-doped ZnO is considered a promising candidate for applications in spintronics. Here, we developed it novel and versatile synthetic route for obtaining impurity-free Mn-doped zinc oxide (Zn1-xMnxO) materials witha well-controlled content of ...

Monod andBeuneu [P. Monod and F. Beuneu, Phys. Rev. B 19, 911 (1979)] established the validity of the ElliottYafet theory for elemental metals through correlating the experimental electron spin resonance linewidth with the so-called spin-orbit admixture co ...

A large number of studies have indicated recently that photosynthetic reaction center proteins (RC) bind successfully to nanostructures and their functional activity is largely retained. The major goal of current research is to find the most efficient syst ...

The temperature dependent resistivity and thermo-electric power of Cr-N codoped TiO2 were compared with that of single element N and Cr doped and undoped TiO2 using epitaxial anatase thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition on (100) LaAlO3 substrates. T ...

We report on ah-plane resistivity (rho) and angle-reserved photoemission (ARPES) spectra for Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x single crystals irradiated with neutrons or electron-beam irradiation. Both the normal and superconducting states were measured with angle-resolved photoemission. Electron-beam irradiation leads to an increase in the residual resistivity, and a decrease in the superconducting transition temperature (T-c). The resistivity data does not indicate any pseudogap; the resistivity is linear from T-c to 300K

The decoupled layer quasi-two-dimensional glass phase of c-axis vortices in optimally doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta (BSCCO) exhibits low-temperature metastability, the onset temperature of which is coincident with the peak in depinning current for zero-field-c ...

Graphite has been intensively studied, yet its electron spins dynamics remains an unresolved problem even 70 years after the first experiments. The central quantities, the longitudinal (T-1) and transverse (T-2) relaxation times were postulated to be equal ...

Millimeter-sized cobalt doped rutile crystals with a bi-pyramidal shape are obtained by chemical vapour transport using scroll-type H2Ti3O7 nanotubes as a precursor in which Co2+ ions are introduced by a simple ion exchange method prior to the growth. Desp ...

Atomic force microscopy has been used to investigate the mechanical properties of microtubules. Method of Salvetat et al. [1], originally developed for measuring the Young's modulus of carbon nanotubes, has been extended to a biological system of similar geometry. Preliminary measurements of Young's modulus of microtubules in this configuration give a value of 74 MPa. Compression measurements on the same system give a value of 22 MPa, which is of the same order of magnitude, while values previously reported

Many proteins in alive organisms have a domain structure providing them the possibility to reversible unfolding, which seems to play an essential role in those processes occurring in tissues which are controlled by mechanical cellular tension. In this work ...

Water contamination due to environmental conditions and poor waste management in certain areas of the world represents a serious problem in accessing clean and safe drinking water. This problem is especially critical in electricity-poor regions, where adva ...

The aim of this work is to develop a controllable synthesis pathway which produces a stable alumina layer on the surface of carbon nanotubes by impregnation method. Precursor compounds such as aluminium isopropoxide and aluminium-acetylacetonate were used ...

We present the microrheological study of the two close human epithelial cell lines: non-cancerous HCV29 and cancerous T24. The optical tweezers tracking was applied to extract the several seconds long trajectories of endogenous lipid granules at time step ...

In this study, two samples of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) were synthesized by CVD of acetylene over Fe2Co catalysts supported by CaCO3 using different temperatures. The material produced at 660 °C (MWNT600) shows slightly better performance as evid ...
