For better electrical contacts of potential devices, growth of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (CNT forests) directly onto conductive substrates is an emerging challenge. Here, we report a systematic study on the CCVD synthesis of carbon nanotube fores ...

This study aimed at comparing the photocatalytic efficiencies of various TiO2 based photocatalysts for phenol degradation and bacteria inactivation under illumination with visible light. Commercial undoped anatase and rutile (both from Aldrich), Aeroxide P ...

In many applications like photovoltaics, fuel cells, batteries, or interconnects in integrated circuits carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have the role of charge transport electrodes. The building of such devices requires an in situ growth of CNTs at temperatures wh ...

We report on the reversible dimerization of methylene blue (MB) on titanate nanowires. The self-organizational properties of MB on the surface of this nanostructured material studied by spectroscopic means revealed that the light absorption properties of t ...

2H-NbSe2 is a prototypical charge-density-wave (CDW) system, exhibiting such a symmetry-breaking quantum ground state in its bulk and down to a single-atomic-layer limit. However, how this state depends on dimensionality and what governs the dimensionality ...

The strong Ising spin-orbit coupling in certain two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides can profoundly affect the superconducting state in few-layer samples. For example, in NbSe2, this effect combines with the reduced dimensionality to stabilize ...

The electron spin lifetime in an assembly of chemically synthesized graphene sheets was found to be extremely sensitive to oxygen. Introducing small concentrations of physisorbed O-2 onto the graphene surface reduced the exceptionally long 140 ns electron ...

Based on the reported ion migration under an electric field in hybrid lead halide perovskites we have developed a bright, light-emitting electrochemical cell with CH3NH3PbBr3 single crystals directly grown on vertically aligned carbon nanotube forests as c ...

Detection and direct power conversion of high energy and high intensity ionizing radiation could be a key element in next generation nuclear reactor safety systems and space-born devices. For example, the Fukushima catastrophe in 2011 could have been large ...

The photovoltaic perovskite, methylammonium lead triiodide [CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3))], is one of the most efficient materials for solar energy conversion. Various kinds of chemical and physical modifications have been applied to MAPbI(3) towards better unders ...

With different mass ratios, titanium dioxide/carbon nanotube (0.1-10 wt% CNTcontent) nanocomposites were prepared with the aid of ultrasonication method. The structures of the various TiO2/CNT nanocomposites were characterized by electron microscopy (scann ...

Charge density wave (CDW) is a startling quantum phenomenon, distorting a metallic lattice into an insulating state with a periodically modulated charge distribution. Astonishingly, such modulations appear in various patterns even within the same family of ...

This is the first study of the effect of pressure on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) intercalated by atoms that order magnetically. Co0.33NbS2 is a layered system where the intercalated Co atoms order antiferromagnetically at T-N = 26 K at ambient pressure. We have conducted a detailed study of dc-resistivity (rho), thermoelectric power (S), and thermal conductivity (kappa). At ambient pressure the magnetic transition corresponds to a well-pronounced peak in dS/dT, as well as to a kink in the dc-res

Organometallic lead halide perovskites are highly efficient materials for solar cells and other optoelectronic applications due to their high quantum efficiency and exceptional semiconducting properties. A peculiarity of these perovskites is the substantia ...

The effect of poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers of generations G2, G6, and G10 on the dispersion stability of titanate nanowires (TiONWs) as potential nanocarriers was clarified in order to develop biocompatible delivery systems. The PAMAMs adsorbed str ...

Partially oxidized fcc FePd and FePt nanoparticles with mean diameters of 5 and 3 nm, respectively, were synthesized by a reverse micelle polyol process. In situ measurements of magnetic and structural properties during annealing showed a large increase in ...

We report a comprehensive study of transport, magnetotransport, and magnetic properties of single crystals of BaVSe3. The paramagnetic metal-ferromagnetic metal transition at 43 K was followed as a function of pressure by measuring the electrical resistivi ...

Optical tweezers are commonly used and powerful tools to perform force measurements on the piconewton scale and to detect nanometer-scaled displacements. However, the precision of these instruments relies to a great extent on the accuracy of the calibratio ...

Grafting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) directly on carbon fibers represents a promising approach in order to strengthen the weak interface between carbon fibers and polymer matrix in carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites (CFRCs). We have carried out direct ...

Gamma-rays (gamma-rays), wherever present, e.g., in medicine, nuclear environment, or homeland security, due to their strong impact on biological matter, should be closely monitored. There is a need for simple, sensitive gamma-ray detectors at affordable p ...
