Perovskite alkaline niobates, due to their strong nonlinear optical properties, including birefringence and the capability to produce second-harmonic generation (SHG) signals, attract a lot of attention as potential candidates for applications as local nan ...

SU8-carbon nanotube composites have been produced to enhance the mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of SU8 photoresists. Homogeneous composites materials have been obtained when multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) functionalized with COOH gro ...

Near-infrared (NIR) light sensitive lanthanide-doped NaYF4 upconversion particles (UCPs) are gaining increasing attention as local probes in biomedical applications. Here, we implemented a photonic force microscope (PFM) to manipulate and study the optical ...

Einstein's stochastic description of the random movement of small objects in a fluid, i.e. Brownian motion, reveals to be quite different, when observed on short timescales. The limitations of Einstein's theory with respect to particle inertia and hydrodyn ...

The cellular toxicity of carbon-based nanomaterials was studied as a function of their aspect ratio and surface chemistry. These structures were multiwalled carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, and carbon nanoparticles. Their toxicity was tested in vitro o ...

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/SU8 composites have been produced to enhance the mechanical properties of SU8 photoresist. We have studied the influence of SU8 solvent on the structural homogeneity of composites through nano-indentation testing. It is found that acetone and propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA) are very suitable solvents to prepare MWCNTs/SU8 composites with significant increase of the Young's modulus (E-Y). The highest increase of E-Y in respect to the parent material of 104%

The resistivity of a very high quality anatase TiO2 doped with 6% of Nb was measured from 300K down to 40 mK. No sign of superconductivity was detected. Instead, a minute quantity of cation vacancies resulted in a Kondo scattering. Measurements of thermo-e ...

Graphene-based SU8 nanocomposite is developed as a new conductive polymer, which benefits from remarkable electrical conductivity of graphene, along with photo-pattern-ability and transparency of SU8. Well defined structures with minimal resolution of 10 m ...

We report the synthesis of Methylammonium Lead Iodide (CH3NH3PbI3) nanowires by a low temperature solution processed crystallization using a simple slip-coating method. The anisotropic particle shape exhibits advantages over nanoparticles in terms of charg ...

We report new results on the electron spin resonance of single walled carbon nanotubes, peapods and double walled carbon nanotubes. A small ESR line is present in well purified samples and its temperature dependence reveals a striking 'super-Curie' paramag ...

Strong epidemiologic evidence suggests an association between Alzheimer disease (AD) and type 2 diabetes. To determine if amyloid beta (A

\beta

) and hyperphosphorylated tau occurs in type 2 diabetes, pancreas tissues from 21 autopsy cases (10 type 2 diabe ...

We report a novel synthesis route of homogeneously manganese-doped TiO2 nanotubes in a broad concentration range. The scroll-type trititanate (H2Ti3O7) nanotubes prepared by hydrothermal synthesis were used as precursors. Mn2+ ions were introduced by an io ...

We investigated the effect of disorder on the spectral properties of the high temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x. We find that small defect densities, in the low 10(-3) range, already suppress the characteristic spectral signature of the superconducting state, while new excitations appear within the gap. We conclude that, due to defect-induced pair breaking, superconducting pairs and normal carriers coexist below T-c. At higher levels of disorder the normal state is also strongly affected, and the q

We investigated the effects of disorder in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x high temperature superconductor. We found that small defect densities already suppress the characteristic spectral signature of the superconducting state. The spectral line shape clearly reflects new excitations within the gap, as expected for defect-induced pair breaking.

Nanotubes present one of the most promising opportunities in nanotechnology with a plethora of applications in nanoelectronics, mechanical engineering, as well as in biomedical technology. Due to their structure and some physical properties, boron nitride ...

For centuries, artisans have harnessed gold nanoparticles to imbue their creations with the vibrant hues that captivate the eye through interactions with visible light. In modern times, these distinct optoelectronic characteristics have pivoted toward the ...

We report on the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity of single crystalline and polycrystalline organometallic perovskite CH3NH3PbI3. The comparable absolute values and temperature dependence of the two samples' morphologies indicate the minor ro ...

We report a detailed spectroscopic study of Ti3+ self-doped TiO2 nanowires prepared by high temperature annealing of the protonated titanate nanowires (TiONW) in hydrogen atmosphere. Hydrogenation causes a color change from white to cyan and a major increa ...

Recent photoemission evidence for non-zero gap in highly overdoped Bi2Sr2-CaCu2O8+x, along the directions in the Brillouin zone where the d-wave gap exhibits nodes, is in accordance with more conventional behavior in strongly overdoped high-T-c cuprates. This differs from underdoped regime, where departures from Fermi-liquid (FL) behavior are found. Observed non-FL linear resistivity up to similar to 1050 K in low-T-c perovskite Sr2RuO4-delta is reminiscent of cuprates and implies some similarities between

Graphene-based nanomaterials are expected to have a profound impact on a broad range of applications. However, studies devoted to investigating the putative adverse health effects of these nanomaterials are hugely underrepresented in the current scientific ...
