The support of distributed energy resources (DERs) for providing operational flexibility can be beneficial from the transmission system operators' (TSOs') viewpoint. Despite all opportunities, using DERs within an active distribution network (ADN) for prov ...

We propose and experimentally validate a process to dispatch the operation of a distribution feeder with heterogeneous prosumers according to a trajectory with 5 min resolution, called dispatch plan, established the day before the operation. The controllab ...

Transient Stability Assessment (TSA) is the process in which the stability of a system is characterized qualitatively or quantitatively. The TSA algorithm presented in this paper is derived from the well-established Single Machine Equivalent (SIME) method and can thus be categorized as a hybrid direct-temporal method. The novelty of the proposed algorithm is that it derives a Transient Stability Index (TSI) with a single TimeDomain (TD) simulation for both stable and unstable cases. The resulting TSI is uni

The paper presents a set of experimental investigations related to the dynamic behavior of supercapacitors. The experimentally observed results are then used as inputs for the development of an improved version of one of the most common supercapacitor RC-e ...

Vulnerability is estimated in terms of the effects that IEMI may induce to the services provided by the facility under study. We estimate the vulnerability by considering three variables: the likelihood, the risk, and the hardness. The different parameters ...

This paper proposes an appropriate offering strategy method for an electric railway company (ERC) to participate in reserve markets. In this respect, first the problem of energy and reserve scheduling for the ERC is modeled in a deterministic way. Next, a ...

The integration of the dynamic line rating (DLR) of overhead transmission lines (OTLs) in power systems secu- rity constrained unit commitment (SCUC) potentially enhances the overall system security as well as its technical/economic performances. This pape ...

Nowadays, the importance of providing frequency stability to power systems with hydropower units is significantly increasing due to the growing proportion of volatile renewable energy sources. However, the provision of such services, as frequency containme ...

This paper addresses the allocation of frequency control services (FCSs) from aggregated resources of active distribution systems (ARADSs) for balancing the transmission system while considering credible contingencies as well as forecast error of loads and ...

Traditionally, the safe operation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) is achieved by imposing conservative constraints on its DC bus current and voltage. By using a computationally efficient single particle model (SPM), we propose to replace these co ...

Within the context of ancillary services provided to active distribution networks by distributed storage systems (DSSs), the paper focuses on the problem of optimally locating DSSs in order to maximize their support to the network voltage control. In parti ...

This paper presents a theory and an efficient solution approach for the problem of electromagnetic field coupling to a long multiconductor line with arbitrary terminations. The theory is applicable for a high-frequency plane wave electromagnetic field exci ...

This paper presents the extension of a platform originally devoted to symmetrical transient stability analysis, into the domain of unbalanced faults. The aim of this solver is to increase the speed of dynamic stability assessment for power systems. It is b ...

The management of voltage and reactive power control sources considering the voltage stability is a challenging issue for secure operation of power systems. Generally the analysis of the stability margin is performed using P V and V Q based approaches. Thi ...

The paper describes the development and the performance assessment of a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test platform built as a proof-of-concept of a sub-second State Estimator (SE) of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs). The SE relies on the availability of d ...

This paper proposes a decentralized methodology to optimally schedule generating units while simultaneously determining the geographical allocation of the required reserve. We consider an interconnected multi-area power systemwith cross-border trading in th ...

This paper presents a combined framework for power distribution network expansion planning (DNEP) and energy storage systems (ESSs) allocation in active distribution networks (ADNs) hosting large amount of photovoltaic (PV) generations and loads. The propo ...
