Dispersed storage systems (DSSs) can represent an important near-term solution for supporting the operation and control of active distribution networks (ADNs). Indeed, they have the capability to support ADNs by providing ancillary services in addition to ...

The flexibility of distributed energy resources (DERs) accommodated in active distribution networks (ADNs) can be aggregated and then used to provide ancillary services to the transmission system. In this context, this paper presents a linear optimization ...

This paper examines the use of thyristor controlled series capacitors (TCSCs) for the redistribution of active power flows (PFs) in a transmission network and presents a simple model of a hierarchical coordinated control system for multiple devices. The TCSC is one of the representatives of the flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices family and is a solid-state converter that has the capability of controlling PFs in transmission lines by changing its reactance. The model is based on a sensitivity an

Presented is a transistor-level implementation of a floating and tunable CMOS active inductor. It is based on the classical gyrator-C topology and is enhanced by adding an internal offset reduction mechanism to guarantee functionality also for unbalanced D ...

One of the challenging tasks related to the realtime control of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs) is represented by the development of fast (i.e. sub-second) state estimation (SE) processes. As known, the problem of SE of power networks links the measure ...

Facing the dilemma of mitigating carbon emissions and growing energy demand, this paper proposes a hierar-chical electricity-carbon trading mechanism for virtual federated prosumers (VFPs) in regional markets. At the inter-regional level, a trading platfor ...

In order to improve the transfer capability of the 220-500 kV AC transmission system that forms the power network backbone in the Russian Far East interconnected power system, two new generation system protection schemes complexes were put into operation a ...

Advanced power flow control for multiple Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices is described here. An installation of multiple FACTS devices offers a great advantage concerning the flexibility of a system-wide power flow control. ...

This paper proposes a control method for battery energy storage systems (BESSs) to provide concurrent primary frequency and local voltage regulation services. The actual variable active and reactive power capability of the converter, along with the state-o ...

Both deterministic and probabilistic approaches can be used to establish spinning reserve requirements. It has been proved that determining reserve requirements based on probabilistic approaches results in more economical efficiency. So, a probabilistic se ...

This paper proposes a real-time decentralized control algorithm in multi-area active distribution network relying only on dispersed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs). In particular, we propose a zonal control strategy targeting voltage support and lin ...

The progressive displacing of conventional generation in favor of renewable energy sources requires restoring an adequate capacity of regulating power to ensure reliable operation of power systems. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) are considered to b ...

In this paper generation investment process in a liberalised electricity market is simulated as a dynamic control problem with prices, both current and predicted, acting as a feedback variable. Market price is modelled as a function of the capacity margin ...

This paper addresses issues concerning the integration of single-phase charging devices for electric vehicles (EV) in low-voltage microgrids Fast release energy storage is a key issue for microgrid islanding operation. EV batteries provide an additional st ...

The ever-increasing impact of deploying renewable energy resources reducing power system inertia, requires distributed energy resource (DER) aggregators to secure high-performance, fast-responding primary frequency reserve (PFR) in ancillary service market ...

Scheduling voltage and reactive power is one of the major problems and concerns of the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) especially after deregulation of power market. Due to locally provision of the reactive power resources, each TSO has developed its ...

High level functions have been implemented in the EEF dispatching center as decision tools for the system operation staff. A real time security analysis software has been in service since May 1986. The software makes use of novel solutions for HV network operation problems. The architecture of the high level decision functions, the data base structure, the analytical functions (state estimation, observability, load-flow, contingency analysis) and the user friendly man/machine interface are described and dis

This work describes a development of a control system and control strategies capable of governing multiple flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices. The main purposes of the presented coordinated control system are to remove overloads and to achieve specified power flows in transmission lines of a power system in the normal and N-1 steady-state operational modes. Proposed control strategies are based on heuristic rules; therefore they do not require intensive computations. A prototype of a control sy

This work describes the development of a fuzzy logic based control system capable of governing multiple thyristor-controlled series capacitors (TCSCs). The main purpose of the presented coordinated control system is the improvement of active power flow control in a power system. The proposed control strategy is quite simple; therefore it does not require intensive computations on on-line computers. The control system has been designed as a real time tool constantly monitoring power flows and generating appr

This paper presents a network partitioning strategy for the optimal voltage control of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs) by means of Dispersed Energy Storage Systems (DESSs). The proposed partitioning is based on the concept of voltage sensitivity coeffi ...
