The aggregators are intermediary players at the distribution system level. They manage the financial transactions of resources such as micro-turbines (MTs), photo-voltaic (PV) production systems, flexible demands (FDs), and must-run demands (MDs) in the en ...

This paper presents an application of heuristic methods to the restoration of distribution networks after disturbances. The heuristic approach is proposed since the problem needs more reasoning than pure calculation. Due to the combinatorial aspect of the restoration of a distribution network, the search method must be guided by some heuristics. The problem has been divided into two parts. In the first, the final topology is determined according to the actual problem (branch outage or line overload). The se

This paper presents an ultra-high speed hardware platform dedicated to power system dynamic (small signal) and transient (large signal) stability. It is based on an intrinsic parallel architecture which contains hybrid mixed-signal (analog and digital) cir ...

The ever-increasing penetration of Distributed Generators (DGs) in distribution networks suggests to enable their potentials in better fulfilling the restoration objective. The objective of the restoration problem is to resupply the maximum energy of loads ...

In real time scenario, transmission (of power) in power systems may not be always ideal i.e. they may be interrupted. As a result, the synchronization among the power generating modules may be lost. Loss of synchronization has a direct effect on the stabil ...

This project presents a pre-State Estimation method for the detection of Bad Data (BD) in Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) using correlation analysis and a Neural Network Classifier. Presented in this paper is the algorithm design, the steps for generating ...

The ever-increasing demand for electrical power leads to reinforced power systems. Therefore, the overcurrents resulting from contingencies such as short-circuits are increasingly higher. In order to reduce these overcurrents, a protection system composed of a superconducting current limiter and a traditional breaker seems to provide a promising solution for future power system operation. In this context, the authors aim is to analyze the transient response to a fault of a resistive type high-Tc

This paper presents a fully analog demonstrator based on power system emulation for high-speed power system stability analysis.Abenchmark using a fixed two-machine topology has been implemented. The characteristics of the emulated components (i.e., generat ...

Power systems with large shares of converter-interfaced renewables may be characterised by low grid inertia due to the lack of frequency containment provided by synchronous generators. Battery energy storage systems (BESSs), which can adjust their power ou ...

This paper presents a solution to address wear and tear of Run-of-River (RoR) Hydropower Plants (HPPs) providing enhanced Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR). In this respect, the study proposes the integration of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) wit ...

This paper presents the comparison of decentralized and centralized market settings in terms of economic efficiencies, particularly price signals, and operating aspects. The decentralized dispatch consists of an energy auction separated from a contingency ...

Transient stability investigations consist of studying the rotor oscillations of generators (electro-mechanic oscillations, 0.1-2 Hz) after the occurrence of a fault of large amplitude, e.g. short circuit. The goal is to indicate if the generators are capable to stay synchronous after a fault has occurred. The fault duration is one of the most important factors to be determined. In fact, the shorter the fault, the more the maintaining of synchronisation can be guaranteed. Now in case of a fault, a fault cur

The paper presents the implementation details and the experimental validation of a linear state estimator based on synchrophasor measurements in a real subtransmission network. The data are provided by 15 phasor measurement units (PMUs) installed in the 12 ...

In this paper, we present a new method for the estimation of the prediction-error covariances of a Kalman filter (KF), which is suitable for step-varying processes. The method uses a series of past innovations (i.e., the difference between the upcoming mea ...

Inter-zonal trading in multi-area power system (MAPS) improves the market efficiency and the system reliability by sharing the resources (energy and reserve services) across zonal boundaries. Actually, each area can operate with less reserve resources than ...
