Various real-time optimization techniques proceed by controlling the gradient to zero. These methods primarily differ in the way the gradient is estimated. This paper compares various gradient estimation methods. It is argued that methods with model-based ...

In this paper we present modeling and control of a multicable suspended mechanism called the ‘2D SpiderCrane’. The use of cables, and thus avoiding conventional heavy components, makes such a mechanism suitable for working at high transfer speeds. The init ...

We discuss the design of sampled-data economic nonlinear model predictive control schemes for continuous-time systems based on turnpike properties. In a recent paper we have shown that an exact turnpike property allows establishing finite-time convergence ...

This paper illustrates the practical application of non-iterative correlation- based tuning with guaranteed stability. In this method, a sufficient condition for closed-loop stability is defined as the H infinity-norm of a particular error function. This n ...

A powerful approach for dynamic optimization in the presence of uncertainty is to incorporate measurements into the optimization framework so as to track the necessary conditions of optimality (NCO), the so-called NCO- tracking approach. For nonsingular co ...

A variance analysis of the parameters of a plant, belonging to a class of multivariable systems, estimated in closed-loop operation is performed. More specifically, having in mind the control applications where it is not desirable to excite all external re ...

This paper examines the identification of multi-input systems. Motivated by an experiment design problem (should one excite the various inputs simultaneously or separately), we examine the effect of an additional input on the variance of the estimated coef ...

The recently-proposed method for iterative correlation-based controller tuning is considered in this paper for the tuning of multivariable Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) controllers. The parameters of the controller are updated directly using the data acquire ...

A new crane design, labeled "SpiderCrane", is proposed to handle fast load displacements. Its main particularity is the absence of heavy mobile components. The system beeing underactuated, its control is challenging. Hence, as a step towards easier and mor ...

Measurements can be used in an optimization framework to compensate the effects of uncertainty in the form of model mismatch or process disturbances. Among the various options for input adaption, a promising approach consists of directly enforcing the nece ...

Frequent and accurate concentration estimates are important for the on-line control and optimization of chemical reaction systems. Such estimates can be obtained using state estimation methods that fuse frequent (fast) delay-free on-line measurements with ...
