The economic conceptualization of Freudian metapsychology, based on an energetics model of the psyche's workings, offers remarkable commonalities with some recent discoveries in neuroscience, notably in the field of neuroenergetics. The pattern of cerebral ...

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent fluid with spontaneous electric and magnetic dipoles is analysed in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Taking into account the chemical composition of the current densities and stress tenso ...

Spin caloritronics refers to research efforts in spintronics when a heat current plays a role. In this review, we start out by reviewing the predictions that can be drawn from the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. This serves as a conceptual framework in which to analyze the interplay of charge, spin and heat transport. This formalism predicts tensorial relations between vectorial quantities such as currents and gradients of chemical potentials or of temperature. Transverse effects such as the Nerns

A leading nonlinear effect in magnonics is the interaction that splits a high-frequency magnon into two low-frequency magnons with conserved linear momentum. Here, we report experimental observation of nonlocal three-magnon scattering between spatially sep ...

NMR spectroscopy is one of the newer spectroscopic techniques for investigating the static, dynamic and electronic structures of molecules adsorbed onto metal catalyst surfaces. We review recent progress in the application of solid-state NMR methods to the investigation of molecules adsorbed onto metal surfaces in an electrochemical environment: in the presence of electrolyte, and at an electrified interface under external potentiostatic control. While at a very early stage of development, the NMR-electroch

Magnetic field effects on electrocatalysis have recently gained attention due to the substantial enhancement of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on ferromagnetic catalysts. When detecting an enhanced catalytic activity, the effect of magnetic fields on ...

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent continuous medium with intrinsic rotation is analysed in the presence of electromagnetic fields with a weak linear magnetoelectric coupling in the non-relativistic limit. Taking into account the ...

We present the quantum master equations for midsize molecules in the presence of an external magnetic field. The Hamiltonian describing the dynamics of a molecule accounts for the molecular deformation and orientation properties, as well as for the electro ...

The emerging field of spintronics explores the many possibilities offered by the prospect of using the spin of the electrons for fast, nanosized electronic devices. The effect of magnetization acting on a current is the essence of giant or tunnel magnetore ...

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent continuous medium with electromagnetic fields is analysed in the non-relativistic limit. Applying locally the first and second law of thermodynamics and Maxwell’s equations for a linear theory o ...

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy suffers from low sensitivity due to the low nuclear spin polarization obtained within practically achievable external magnetic fields. Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) refers to techniques that increase the N ...

Controlling the spin current lies at the heart of spintronics and its applications. In ferromagnets, the sign of spin currents is fixed once the current direction is determined. However, spin currents in antiferromagnets can possess opposite polarizations, ...

We demonstrate opto-spintronics using Fe-doped Indium Phosphide (InP). The method is based on optical orientation of InP conduction electron spins which are electrically detected in planar InP/oxide/Ni tunnel spin filters. We separate the optical excitatio ...

We report here on ferromagnetic/superconductor FM/SC and SC/FM double layers deposited without a buffer layer between FM and SC. Thin films of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) are used for the FM, and YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) for the SC. Both films can grow crystalline on SrTiO3 (STO) or LaAlO3 (LAO) substrates in high temperature and in oxygen atmosphere conditions. Magnetic and transport measurements and X-ray diffraction analysis are used to characterise film quality and properties. It is shown that off-axis magnetron sp

Antiferromagnetic spin textures, compared to their ferromagnetic counterparts, innately possess high stability with respect to external disturbance and high-frequency dynamics compatible with ultrafast information processing. However, deterministic creatio ...

The paper report results of magneto-thermoelectric properties the single crystal Bi1-xSbx nanowires in glass cover with different diameters prepared by Ulitovsky-Taylor method. We study the effect of nanowire dimensionality in the Bi1-xSbx, nanowires in se ...

We investigate the transport properties of topological insulator (TI) nanowires. Single-crystal nanowire samples with diameters ranging from 75 nm to 1.1 m are prepared using high frequency liquid phase casting in a glass capillary; cylindrical single crys ...

We report on coherent propagation of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin waves over a long distance (similar to 10 mu m) at room temperature in a canted AFM alpha-Fe2O3 owing to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Unprecedented high group velocities (up ...

In the Freudian theory of the psychical apparatus, the introduction from the 1920s onward of the second drive dualism appears as a major turning point. The idea of a "death drive," first expressed in Beyond the Pleasure Principle (Freud, 1920), is generall ...

Magnetotransport (magnetoresistance and anomalous Hall effect) and thermoelectric (Seebeck and anomalous Nernst effect) effects are investigated on epitaxially grown Co2TiSn and Co2Ti0.6V0.4Sn Heusler thin films. An anomalous Nernst coefficient up to 1.8 m ...
