Cr contamination, generated by system components located upstream a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and responsible for Cr-poisoning induced air electrode performance degradation, must be suppressed by hindering the access of Cr pollutants to the cathode comp ...

We demonstrate self-patterned insulating nanoparticle layers to define local electrical interconnects in thin-film electronic devices. We show this with thin-film silicon tandem solar cells, where we introduce between the two component cells a solution-pro ...

We report a two-step thermal evaporation–close space sublimation deposition method for tunable bandgap lead halide perovskites with single junction solar cell efficiencies exceeding 20%. These absorbers are integrated into perovskite–silicon tandem solar cells with stabilized efficiencies of >29%.

One of the major limitations of the nickel (Ni) - yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) anode support for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) is its low capability to withstand transients between reducing and oxidizing atmospheres ("RedOx" cycle), owing to the Ni-to- ...

The technique of alloying FA+ with Cs+ is often used to promote structural stabilization of the desirable alpha-FAPbI3 phase in halide perovskite devices. However, the precise mechanisms by which these alloying approaches improve the optoelectronic quality ...

Light management is of crucial importance to reach high efficiencies with thin-film silicon multijunction solar cells. In this contribution, we present light-management strategies that we recently developed. This includes high quality absorber materials, low-refractive index intermediate reflectors, and highly transparent multiscale electrodes. Specifically, we show the fabrication of high-efficiency tandem devices with a certified stabilized efficiency of 12.6%, triple-junction solar cells with a stabilize

Vapor phase deposition of formamidinium-rich perovskites is hampered by the decomposition of formamidine in the vapor phase. We use the reversibility of this reaction to establish a dynamic equilibrium that enables the vapor-phase synthesis of formamidiniu ...

A method for rapid quantitative imaging of dopant distribution using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) is described. The method is based on SIMS imaging of the cross-section of a reference sample with a known concentration profile. It is demonstrated ...

The conflict between PV installations and other land uses, such as forestry or agriculture, highlights the urgency for alternative solutions. Integrating PV technology into the built environment is a compelling strategy to mitigate these challenges, enabli ...

Sample preparation and scanning electron microscopy imaging methods were developed to characterize solid-oxide fuel cell anodes made out of a nickel- yttria-stabilized zirconia porous cermet. The sample preparation uses only tripod polishing and does not r ...

Inverted perovskite solar cells face performance limitations due to non-radiative recombination at the perovskite surfaces in devices, including functional layers. Advanced characterization and density functional theory reveal that phosphonic acids passivate perovskite surface defects, while piperazinium chloride mitigates interface recombination by improving energy level alignment, introducing a field effect, and homogenizing the surface. Together, the quasi-Fermi level splitting of the perovskite is homog

Wide-bandgap (WBG) perovskite absorbers play a pivotal role in enabling high-efficiency tandem solar cells; yet, their long-term operational stability remains a significant hurdle to commercialization.

Metal halide perovskites have shown exceptional potential in converting solar energy to electric power in photovoltaics, yet their application is hampered by limited operational stability. This stimulated the development of hybrid layered (two-dimensional, ...

Combining the two technologies of tandem solar cells and bifacial solar cells has a great potential to maximize energy harvesting while minimizing material and surface usage. Mid-bandgap perovskites (1.50–1.60 eV) are important for fulfilling current match ...

Changes in the nanostructure of methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI(3)) perovskite solar cells are assessed as a function of current-voltage stimulus by biasing thin samples in situ in a transmission electron microscope. Various degradation pathways are iden ...

After 10,000 h solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack operation, the Cr-poisoning situation in (La0.6Sr0.4) (Co0.2Fe0.8)O-3 (LSCF)-based cathode material is depicted in this work. Systematic Cr profiling by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), from post ...

Time-resolved in situ X-ray tomography combined with scanning electron microscopy was performed on an Al-Fe diffusion system at 973 K (700 A degrees C) to study the formation of the main intermetallic compounds occurring at the interface. After nucleation ...

Au-In bonds with a nominal composition of about 60 at.% In were fabricated for use in wafer-level packaging of MEMS. The microstructure of the bonds was studied by scanning electron microscopy. The bond hermeticity was then assessed using oxidation of Cu t ...
