We propose a realistic protocol for the preparation and readout of mechanical Bell states in an optomechanical system. The proposal relies on parameters characterizing a photonic crystal cavity mode, coupled to two localized flexural modes of the structure ...

A study of the elastic exciton-exciton Coulomb scattering in a semiconductor quantum well is presented, including the interexciton exchange of carriers and the spin degrees of freedom. The theoretical results show that electron-electron and hole-hole exchanges are the dominant mechanisms of interaction, while the classical direct term is negligible. The density-dependent homogeneous linewidth is calculated within the Born approximation and good agreement with the existing experimental data is obtained. Owin

We theoretically investigate the magnitude and range of the photon-mediated interaction between two quantum dots embedded in a photonic crystal waveguide, including fabrication disorder both in the crystal and in the dot positioning. We find that disorder- ...

The design of photonic crystal cavities has always presented a considerable challenge over the past two decades. In this work, a global optimization technique has been used to maximize the Q/V ratio of a simple H0 type nanocavity. The optimization is carri ...

We study the entanglement of multiple polariton modes, which results in continuous variable cluster states suitable for quantum computation. Schemes are based on parametric scattering between spin-polarized lower and upper polariton branches in planar micr ...

A theoretical investigation of the exciton formation process from free carriers in a single GaAs/Al1-xGaxAs quantum well is presented. The mechanism for the formation processes is provided by the interaction of the electrons and holes with phonons. The contributions from both the acoustic and optical phonons are considered. The relative importance of exciton creation from a thermalized electron-hole gas (bimolecular formation) versus a direct creation of excitons from the crystal ground state through the el

We demonstrate that the emission characteristics of site-controlled InGaAs/GaAs single quantum dots embedded in photonic crystal slab cavities correspond to single confined excitons coupled to cavity modes, unlike previous reports of similar systems based ...

The nonlinear dynamics of exciton-polaritons in semiconductor microcavities is treated within a model of interacting bosons for the signal, pump, and idler modes. The correlations between all three polariton modes are taken into account in the lowest order ...

Scattering rates of quantum-well excitons by acoustic phonons are calculated using realistic deformation potentials for electrons and holes in structures based on GaAs. These fates are used in order to reproduce the exciton dynamics in a time-resolved photoluminescence experiment. Rise time and decay time of the luminescence signal are studied as a function of temperature and quantum-well size. It is found that the exciton distribution function reaches a stationary shape during the radiative recombination a

We solve numerically in one dimension and in the self-consistent ladder approximation the many-body problem of interacting electrons and holes. The model contains the minimal ingredients allowing to take into account the coexistence of a population of bound excitonic states with weakly correlated e-h pairs. A simplified contact potential for the Coulomb interaction is used. The strong e-h correlation leads to asymmetric single particle spectral functions with structures related to bound excitonic states. Th

Coherent coupling between distant two-level systems is a fundamental process in several physical contexts, from natural photosynthesis to quantum-information processing, where it enables two-qubit operations. For quantum information, qubits based on electr ...

In this work we derive a theory of polariton condensation based on the theory of interacting Bose particles. In particular, we describe self-consistently the linear exciton-photon coupling and the exciton-nonlinearities, by generalizing the Hartree-Fock-Popov description of BEC to the case of two coupled Bose fields at thermal equilibrium. In this way, we compute the density-dependent one-particle spectrum, the energy occupations and the phase diagram. The results quantitatively agree with the existing expe

We review the unconventional photon blockade mechanism. This quantum effect remarkably enables a strongly sub-Poissonian light statistics, even from a system characterized by a weak single-photon nonlinearity. We revisit the past results, which can be inte ...

We show theoretically how quantum interference between linearly coupled modes with weak local nonlinearity allows the generation of continuous variable entanglement. By solving the quantum master equation for the density matrix, we show how the entanglemen ...

Landau–Zener–Stückelberg–Majorana (LZSM) interference occurs when qubit parameters are periodically modulated across avoided level crossings. We explore this phenomenon in nonlinear multilevel bosonic systems, where interference is influenced by multiple e ...

The influence of static disorder on the optical properties of microcavity-embedded quantum wells is studied by means of a microscopic model. Both the exciton-photon coupling and the exciton-disorder interaction are treated nonperturbatively. Despite the nonconservation of the in-plane momentum due to disorder, the Rabi splitting is still present. Moreover, the lower polariton is subject to motional narrowing of the spectral response, while for the upper one this effect is less important. This result shows v

Thanks to their high quality factor, combined to the smallest modal volume, defect-cavities in photonic crystal slabs represent a promising, versatile tool for fundamental studies and applications in photonics. In paricular, the L3, H0, and H1 defects are ...

We introduce a model-independent method for the efficient simulation of low-entropy systems, whose dynamics can be accurately described with a limited number of states. Our method leverages the time-dependent variational principle to efficiently integrate ...

We present a novel semiconductor structure in which 0D polaritons coexist with 2D microcavity polaritons. Spatial trapping of the 2D microcavity polaritons results from the confinement of their photonic part in a potential well, consisting of an adjustable ...
