Sensor system (1) comprising a frame (306) supporting a force-sensing tip (310) arranged to generate a signal based upon a force applied by said force-sensing tip (310) to a material to be tested, characterised in that said system (1) further comprises:- an ...

The invention relates to a rotating oscillator for a timepiece comprising a support element designed to allow the oscillator to be assembled on a timepiece, a balance, a plurality of flexible blades connecting the support element to the balance and able to ...

The present invention relates to a device (1) for puncturing an object, in particular a bodily vein (V), comprising: - a body (2) defining an inner cavity (3) with at least one opening (31) and - a perforating needle (4) extending in said cavity (3) and be ...

We present a new mechanical oscillator architecture that can be made insensitive to linear and angular accelerations while keeping constant oscillation frequency. The oscillator has the kinematics of a Watt linkage, so we call it a Watt oscillator. In orde ...

High precision positioning devices based on flexural hinges are often used in 3 rd generation synchrotron radiation beamlines. In this work is presented a first approach towards the optimisation of the geometry of the notches. The obtained results indicate that the optimal shape will depend on a trade-off between the possibility to increase the compliance (i.e. decrease the stress) of the notch for a given deflection on one hand and the entity of the parasitic shift accompanying the main degree of freedom o

The present invention relates to a device for measuring a contact force exerted by an object on a probe comprising a lever and said probe for contacting the object. The lever is pivotably coupled to a body by coupling means. The device comprising a fixed f ...

A method for fabricating a micromechanical part from a substrate in which the part is fabricated by providing a plurality of fasteners between the part and the substrate, the fasteners being sacrificial, characterized in that the fasteners include at least ...

This article presents a novel torque measuring setup working in the nano newton-meter range. The central novelty is a long (1 meter range) thin (diameter of a few tens of micrometers) metallic wire used instead of the relatively stiff torsion zone of the s ...

This paper analyses how a course on improvisation and collective creation in engineering addressed to master's students in Switzerland moved online. The course offers an experience in the field of performing arts, through embodied and situated activities, ...

The flywheel is a widespread mechanical component used for the storage of kinetic energy and angular momentum. It typically consists of cylindrical inertia rotating about its axis on rolling bearings, which involves undesired friction, lubrication, and wea ...

Kinematic couplings are used when two rigid bodies need to be repeatedly and accurately positioned with respect to each other. They allow for sub-micron positioning repeatability by suppressing play and reducing strains in the bodies. Typical applications ...

Crank arrangement (1) for driving a pin-driven two degrees? of freedom mechanical oscillator (5), comprising:- a crank element (7) arranged to be rotationally driven about an axis of rotation (19) by means of a mechanical source of energy (M),- a crank slo ...

We define isotropic springs to be central springs having the same restoring force in all directions. In previous work, we showed that isotropic springs can be advantageously applied to horological time bases since they can be used to eliminate the escapeme ...

Flexure pivot based system (1) being one of: a force sensor, a force limiting device arranged to exert a predetermined threshold force, a torque limiting device arranged to exert a predetermined threshold torque, a programmable mechanical memory, or an acc ...

This paper describes a new monochromator design for a bending magnet beamline of the Swiss Light Source synchrotron facility. The beamline optics is based on a horizontally deflecting spherical grating monochromator (SGM) with two gratings at a constant de ...

The present invention related to an optical force sensing element for microsurgical instruments (22), for measuring force F in three orthogonal directions x, y, z, comprising a monolithic cylinder structure (1), a cylindrical surface (4) and a top surface ...

wherein k1, k3, k5 . . . are constants and θ is an angle of inclination of said third axis (x, P) of said inertial body with respect to a direction of said third axis (xr) when said inertial body is in said resting position. ...

Thanks to their absence of play, absence of contact friction and possible monolithic fabrication, flexure pivots offer advantages over traditional bearings in small-scale, high accuracy applications and environments where lubrication and wear debris are pr ...

The present invention concerns a pivot comprising two assemblies, namely a central assembly (401) and a peripheral assembly (400). These two assemblies are mobile in rotation relative to each other around an axis of rotation (A). The pivot is characterized ...

This article presents a novel family of exactly-rectilinear translation mechanisms, called the "QUADRISTAGE family", based on one-degree-of-freedom planar kinematics exclusively using pivot joints and rigid segments. Several variants are presented, some pr ...
