The clustering of C IV and Si IV at the end of reionization. A perspective from the E-XQR-30 survey

We studied the clustering of metal absorption lines and the structures that they arise in as a function of cosmic time. We focused on the behaviour of ̧iv and ionic species. These ̧iv and absorption features are identified along a given quasar sightline. We exploited the two-point correlation function (2PCF) to investigate the clustering of these structures as a function of their separation. We utilised the E-XQR-30 data to perform a novel analysis at z>5. We also drew on literature surveys (including XQ-10

Ionic Screening and its Impact on J-V Curves in Carbon-Based Perovskite Solar Cells

Frank Nüesch

In recent years, organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite-based solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as a potentially disruptive photovoltaic technology, offering high power conversion efficiencies (PCE) with low manufacturing costs and simple fabrication via solution processing. Despite the mixed ionic-electronic conductivity of perovskites and the high defect densities in the semiconductor expected from solution processing, PSCs can easily achieve high PCE values. The defects most likely to form mostly induce

Doping and energy band modulation of nanoporous electrodes for enhancing power conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells

Mohammad Khaja Nazeeruddin, Alwani Imanah Rafieh

This work report, for the first time, the co-doping of mesoporous TiO2 with Cd2+ and La3+ cations for improved performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Cd2+ ions modify the TiO2 lattice interstitially and lower the band gap enabling better electr ...

Efficiency of SPIONs functionalized with polyethylene glycol bis (amine) for heavy metal removal

Heinrich Hofmann

Hybrid magnetic nanoparticles based on poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanopaticles (SPIONs) with selective surface modification has been developed for heavy metal removal by applying external magnetic fields. The nanopart ...

The potential for microfluidics in electrochemical energy systems

Demetri Psaltis, Miguel Antonio Modestino, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini Hashemi

Flow based electrochemical energy conversion devices have the potential to become a prominent energy storage technology in a world driven by renewable energy sources. The optimal design of these devices depends strongly on the tradeoffs between the losses ...

Surface screening of written ferroelectric domains in ambient conditions

We have combined Piezoresponse Force Microscopy and Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM) to study screening charge dynamics in written domains on PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (PZT) thin film surfaces under a controlled environment and at variable temperature. The screen ...

Thermodynamics of electromechanically coupled mixed ionic-electronic conductors: Deformation potential, Vegard strains, and flexoelectric effect

Alexander Tagantsev

Strong coupling among external voltage, electrochemical potentials, concentrations of electronic and ionic species, and strains is a ubiquitous feature of solid statemixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIECs), the materials of choice in devices ranging from electroresistive and memristive elements to ion batteries and fuel cells. Here, we analyze in detail the electromechanical coupling mechanisms and derive generalized bias-concentration-strain equations for MIECs including contributions of concentration-dr

From molecules to particles in silane plasmas

Christoph Hollenstein, Alan Howling, Jean-Luc Dorier, Laurent Fabien Hubert Sansonnens

Particle formation has been investigated experimentally from the initial molecular precursors up to the final micron-sized particles in a low pressure silane rf capacitive discharge. Neutrals and ions were studied by quadrupole mass spectrometry in power-modulated plasmas: Whole series of negative ions were observed, ranging from monosilicon anions through to nanometric clusters. Anion confinement results in particles and conversely, anion de-trapping can inhibit particle formation. Plasma polymerisation is
