The Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory (LBE) at EPFL focuses on the multidisciplinary integration of sciences and engineering to harness the biochemical potential of microorganisms for environmental restoration and resource sustainability. LBE conducts research on bioremediation of contaminated sites, biological treatment of industrial effluents, and bioconversion of organic wastes. They develop innovative integrated processes and train environmental scientists and engineers at all academic levels. Expertises include bio treatment of gas, wastewater, and waste, microbial remediation of contaminated soils, and molecular characterization of microbial communities.
