Patrick JermannAfter studies in Geneva (TECFA) and Pittsburgh (LRDC) I joined EPFL in 2003 to coordinate eLearning projects and conduct research in the field of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL). Starting 2013 I am responsible for MOOCs production at the Center for Digital Education (CEDE).Former Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies and former Member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (iJCSCL). Annechien Sarah HelsdingenDr. Anne Helsdingen works as course developer and project manager, developing massive open online courses at the center for digital education from EPFL in Lausanne. Anne has nearly 20 years of experience in human factors research, training and training development, academic teaching and (research) management. Her experience in training and education is rich and varied and includes training critical thinking strategies to various civil and military organizations; designing training programs for military aircrews; developing specifications for artillery training simulators; design, develop and conduct blended learning programs for military commanders; and teaching psychology to bachelor and master students. Anne’s research focuses on learning complex cognitive skills such as reflection, critical thinking and decision-making. She has worked in many international multi-disciplinary research teams, commissioned, for instance, by NATO Research and Technology Organisation or the European Union. Having worked both in academia and in contract research provides her with ample experience in both applied and more fundamental research projects. In her pervious role as research director for Effat University in Saudi Arabia, she managed a diversified team of researchers and substantially contributed to the university’s scientific development by actively shaping and defining the university’s research structure and strategies.
Pierre DillenbourgA former teacher in elementary school, Pierre Dillenbourg graduated in educational science (University of Mons, Belgium). He started his research on learning technologies in 1984. In 1986, he has been on of the first in the world to apply machine learning to develop a self-improving teaching system. He obtained a PhD in computer science from the University of Lancaster (UK), in the domain of artificial intelligence applications for education. He has been assistant professor at the University of Geneva. He joined EPFL in 2002. He has been the director of Center for Research and Support on Learning and its Technologies, then academic director of Center for Digital Education, which implements the MOOC strategy of EPFL (over 2 million registrations). He is full professor in learning technologies in the School of Computer & Communication Sciences, where he is the head of the CHILI Lab: "Computer-Human Interaction for Learning & Instruction ». He is the director of the leading house DUAL-T, which develops technologies for dual vocational education systems (carpenters, florists,...). With EPFL colleagues, he launched in 2017 the Swiss EdTech Collider, an incubator with 80 start-ups in learning technologies. He (co-)-founded 4 start-ups, does consulting missions in the corporate world and joined the board of several companies or institutions. In 2018, he co-founded LEARN, the EPFL Center of Learning Sciences that brings together the local initiatives in educational innovation. He is a fellow of the International Society for Learning Sciences. He currently is the Associate Vice-President for Education at EPFL.
Dimitrios NoukakisDimitrios holds a Diploma in Chemistry (1986) and a PhD (1991) from the University of Fribourg. Between 1991 and 1995 he was a researcher at Kodak Corporate Research Laboratories (Rochester, USA), at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), and at the EPFL. In 2002, he received an MBA from the Business School of Lausanne. Previously, he worked as a publisher for Elsevier (1995-2000) and co-founded FontisMedia and N!light, two companies providing marketing and communication services (2000-2005).
Francisco Pereira Correia PintoFrancisco holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Porto, and a Ph.D. in Signal Processing from the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He is currently leading the development of EPFL's data intelligence infrastructure for institutional data, as well as its new ML/Graph-powered search engine (graphsearch.epfl.ch). His interests lie in the intersection between educational sciences and artificial intelligence.
