The presence of impurity ions in magnetically confined plasmas can significantly influence micro-instabilities, impacting cross-field transport and ultimately affecting fusion performance. In particular, Parallel Velocity Gradient (PVG) instability, common ...

Lagrangian variational principles are used to locate the magnetic axis and to determine its sensitivity to variations in the magnetic field. Only the change in the magnetic field on axis is required to determine, to lowest order, the location of the new ma ...

In the context of global gyrokinetic simulations of turbulence using a particle-in-cell framework, verifying the delta-f assumption with a fixed background distribution becomes challenging when determining quasi-steady state profiles corresponding to given ...

The European DEMO (EU-DEMO) reactor studies within EUROfusion aim to develop a fusion power plant concept. The large tokamak device needs an auxiliary heating power which, at the present stage, is provided by the Electron Cyclotron (EC) heating system with ...

At high energies, the dynamics of a plasma with charged fermions can be described in terms of chiral magnetohydrodynamics. Using direct numerical simulations, we demonstrate that chiral magnetic waves (CMWs) can produce a chiral asymmetry μ5=μL-μR from a s ...

Magnetic field effects on electrocatalysis have recently gained attention due to the substantial enhancement of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on ferromagnetic catalysts. When detecting an enhanced catalytic activity, the effect of magnetic fields on ...

The excitation of the ^{181m}Ta isomer in the laser-plasma scenario was claimed to have been observed more than two decades ago. However, the reported experimental findings-and the respective high excitation rate-were later questioned as they could not be ...

Resonant antennas are increasingly employed by the plasma industry, and the theory has now developed alongside the technological applications to the extent that it is timely to document the progress in this field to aid antenna design for future novel RF p ...

This paper describes the first vertical electron cyclotron emission measurement of non-thermal electron distributions in the Tokamak à Configuration Variable. These measurements were conducted in runaway electron scenarios and in the presence of electron c ...

Quantum magnetic materials can provide explicit realizations of paradigm models in quantum many-body physics. In this context, SrCu2(BO3)2 is a faithful realization of the Shastry-Sutherland model for ideally frustrated spin dimers, even displaying several ...

A novel beam profiler based on microstructured scintillation resin is presented. The detector consists of a bundle of waveguides, featuring an active area of 30 x 30 mm2 with a fill factor of 50% and a pitch of 400 mu m. This configuration is obtained by c ...

A method is presented to reconstruct charged particles with lifetimes between 10ps and 10ns, which considers a combination of their decay products and the partial tracks created by the initial charged particle. Using the Ξ- baryon as a benchmark, the metho ...

New detectors for future high-energy physics experiments will operate under unprecedented radiation dose rates. This condition requires improved radiation resistance on detector equipment. The consequent development of new materials, particularly optical m ...

Non-Newtonian fluids are present in most manufacturing industry processes. Computa-tional models used to describe the rheological behavior of such materials can be costly due to the non-linear behavior of the viscosity. This work presents a parametrized pr ...

Correlations of same-sign charged pions are analysed using proton-lead collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.06 nb(-1). Bose-Einstein correlatio ...
