We consider multitype branching processes evolving in a Markovian random environment. To determine whether or not the branching process becomes extinct almost surely is akin to computing the maximal Lyapunov exponent of a sequence of random matrices, which ...

Coal burning power plants are a frequent target of regulatory programmes because of their emission of chemicals that are known precursors to the formation of ambient particulate air pollution. Health impact assessments of emissions from coal power plants t ...

We propose and analyze a novel Multi Index Monte Carlo (MIMC) method for weak approximation of stochastic models that are described in terms of differential equations either driven by random measures or with random coefficients. The MIMC method is both a s ...

In this work we discuss the dynamically orthogonal (DO) approximation of time dependent partial differential equations with random data. The approximate solution is expanded at each time instant on a time dependent orthonormal basis in the physical domain ...

In this paper, we study the compressibility of random processes and fields, called generalized Levy processes, that are solutions of stochastic differential equations driven by d-dimensional periodic Levy white noises. Our results are based on the estimati ...

Consider a random process s that is a solution of the stochastic differential equation Ls = w with L a homogeneous operator and w a multidimensional Levy white noise. In this paper, we study the asymptotic effect of zooming in or zooming out of the process ...

We consider the simple random walk on Z(d) evolving in a random i.i.d. potential taking values in [0, +infinity). The potential is not assumed integrable, and can be rescaled by a multiplicative factor lambda > 0. Completing the work started in a companion ...

Linear matrix equations, such as the Sylvester and Lyapunov equations, play an important role in various applications, including the stability analysis and dimensionality reduction of linear dynamical control systems and the solution of partial differentia ...

We focus on the control of heterogeneous swarms of agents that evolve in a random environment. Control is achieved by introducing special agents: leader and infiltrated (shill) agents. A refined distinction is made between hidden and apparent controlling a ...

We propose a novel Continuation Multi Level Monte Carlo (CMLMC) algorithm for weak approximation of stochastic models. The CMLMC algorithm solves the given approximation problem for a sequence of decreasing tolerances, ending when the required error tolera ...

In the past years, transport of gases in clay buffer materials for Engineered Barrier Systems (EBS) has been deeply investigated by many research programs in the field of nuclear waste disposal. The phenomenological features of gas transport obtained from ...

Humans and some other animals are able to perform tasks that require coordination of movements across multiple temporal scales, ranging from hundreds of milliseconds to several seconds. The fast timescale at which neurons naturally operate, on the order of ...

In this work we consider quasi-optimal versions of the Stochastic Galerkin method for solving linear elliptic PDEs with stochastic coefficients. In particular, we consider the case of a finite number

N

of random inputs and an analytic dependence of the s ...

Mass is one of the crucial parameters for hardware that has to be placed in Earth orbit. Due to its harsh environment, a material with highest specific properties is desired to achieve space missions. The rise and development of new technologies, such as a ...

This article is devoted to the analysis of a Monte Carlo method to approximate effective coefficients in stochastic homogenization of discrete elliptic equations. We consider the case of independent and identically distributed coefficients, and adopt the p ...
