Abstract

The reaction between 2,2'-dilithiobiphenyl and two equiv. of chlorodiphenylphosphine is confirmed to afford equal amts. of 9-phenyl-9-phosphafluorene (2) and PPh3. 2,2'-Bis(diphenylphosphino)biphenyl (1,1'-biphenyl-2,2'-diylbis(diphenylphosphine) (1)) can be conveniently prepd. by Ullmann coupling of 2-iodophenyldiphenylphosphine oxide and subsequent redn. with trichlorosilane. Trichlorosilane

Trichlorosilane is an inorganic compound with the formula HCl3Si. It is a colourless, volatile liquid. Purified trichlorosilane is the principal precursor to ultrapure silicon in the semiconductor industry. In water, it rapidly decomposes to produce a siloxane polymer while giving off hydrochloric acid. Because of its reactivity and wide availability, it is frequently used in the synthesis of silicon-containing organic compounds. Trichlorosilane is produced by treating powdered metallurgical grade silicon with blowing hydrogen chloride at 300 °C.

Coupling reaction

In organic chemistry, a coupling reaction is a type of reaction in which two reactant molecules are bonded together. Such reactions often require the aid of a metal catalyst. In one important reaction type, a main group organometallic compound of the type R-M (where R = organic group, M = main group centre metal atom) reacts with an organic halide of the type R'-X with formation of a new carbon-carbon bond in the product R-R'. Cross-coupling reaction

In organic chemistry, a cross-coupling reaction is a reaction where two different fragments are joined. Cross-couplings are a subset of the more general coupling reactions. Often cross-coupling reactions require metal catalysts. One important reaction type is this: (R, R' = organic fragments, usually aryle; M = main group center such as Li or MgX; X = halide) These reactions are used to form carbon–carbon bonds but also carbon-heteroatom bonds. Cross-coupling reaction are a subset of coupling reactions.
