Study of CP violating effects in time dependent B0(B̄ 0) → D(*)∓ π± decays

Abstract

The measurements of time-dependent decay rates for B 0(B̄0) → D()∓π ∓ decays and extraction of CP violation parameters containing φ3 were discussed. It was found that a 140 fb-1 data sample, which contained 152 × 106 BB̄ events, was used in the measurement. Charged leptons, pions and kaons were used to identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson. The results show that |2R Dπ sin(2φ1 + φ3)| = 0.060 ± 0.040(stat) ± 0.019(syst) can be obtained.

Pion

In particle physics, a pion (or a pi meson, denoted with the Greek letter pi: _Pion) is any of three subatomic particles: _Pion0, _Pion+, and _Pion-. Each pion consists of a quark and an antiquark and is therefore a meson. Pions are the lightest mesons and, more generally, the lightest hadrons. Lepton

In particle physics, a lepton is an elementary particle of half-integer spin (spin ) that does not undergo strong interactions. Two main classes of leptons exist: charged leptons (also known as the electron-like leptons or muons), and neutral leptons (better known as neutrinos). Charged leptons can combine with other particles to form various composite particles such as atoms and positronium, while neutrinos rarely interact with anything, and are consequently rarely observed. CP violation

In particle physics, CP violation is a violation of CP-symmetry (or charge conjugation parity symmetry): the combination of C-symmetry (charge symmetry) and P-symmetry (parity symmetry). CP-symmetry states that the laws of physics should be the same if a particle is interchanged with its antiparticle (C-symmetry) while its spatial coordinates are inverted ("mirror" or P-symmetry). The discovery of CP violation in 1964 in the decays of neutral kaons resulted in the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1980 for its discoverers James Cronin and Val Fitch.
