I am a chemist turned mitochondria enthusiast. Using molecular biology, super-resolution microscopy and smart imaging techniques, I aim to decipher the complex behaviour of the tiny intruders that live inside our cells, mitochondria, and
Junrui ChenJunrui Chen achieved his BSc. degree in Mechanism and its automation from Beihang University (BUAA), Beijing, China in 2017. Meanwhile, he also received a second degree in Business administration and management. He completed his MSc in Mechatronics and Information Technology at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, in 2021. During his master's studies, he participated in a project at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BIT) to optimize an interface for ECG/PLT signal detection using MATLAB
Milena Maria SchuhmacherResearchSchuhmacher Lab & Chemical and Membrane Biology It's all about the lipids: In the Schuhmacher Lab we are interested in answering outstanding questions in membrane biology. Our chemical biology approach opens the door to investigate the so far mostly invisible and thus secret work of lipids. In particular, we would like to understand the biological role of lipid diversity and their impact on signaling processes.

Anne-Florence Raphaëlle BitbolI was trained in physics, and always had a strong interest in biology. I am broadly interested in understanding biological phenomena in a quantitative way, through physical concepts and mathematical and computational tools. I investigate the relative impacts of optimization and historical contingency in biological evolution, both at the scale of protein sequences and at the scale of microbial populations. Here is my research group website.Curriculum vitae Here is my complete CV. Camille Véronique Bernadette GoemansCamille's research focuses on understanding how antibiotics and non-antibiotic drugs affect the diverse bacteria from the human gut microbiota and how they contribute to dysbiosis and the development of antibiotic resistance. To achieve this goal, she combines systems approaches with molecular microbiology, bacterial genetics and biochemistry. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biomedical Sciences from the UCLouvain, Belgium, after which she completed her PhD (FRIA national fellowship) at th

At the Laboratory of Chemical Nanotechnology (CHEMINA), our mission is to develop translational chemical biosensing technologies that advance human health. Working at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, and neuroscience, we seek to probe the dynamic chemical landscape of biological systems across in vitro systems, in vivo models, and human clinical samples. We develop novel biorecognition elements and innovate biosensing platforms to enable monitoring of small molecules in complex biofluids,
Nicolas ThomäTeaching & PhD PhD Students David Domjan, Pierre Alexander Miranda Herrera, Laurin Tim Kanis, Alessandro Minafra, Pau Reolid Coll Courses Practical - Thomä Lab BIO-624 Expression and purification of recombinant proteins are key methods in our lab studying protein machines on a structural level and ways in which they can be reprogrammed by small molecules. In the course, we will express and purify proteins and biophysically characterise them. Trends in chemical biology and drug discovery
Pablo Rivera FuentesPablo Rivera-Fuentes was born in 1984 in Mexico City. He received a BSc (2008) degree in chemical engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He obtained his MSc (2009) and PhD (2012) degrees in chemistry from ETH Zurich, working under the supervision of Prof. François Diederich. His dissertation was awarded the ETH Medal in 2013. Funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), he carried out postdoctoral research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Prof. Stephen J. Lippard (2012-2014). He subsequently worked at the University of Oxford with Prof. Harry L. Anderson (Department of Chemistry) and Prof. Christian Eggeling (Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine). He started his independent career as non-tenure-track assistant professor at ETH Zurich in October, 2015, and became tenure-track assistant professor of chemical biology at EPFL in August, 2019.
