At the FSE conference of ToSC 2018, Kranz et al. presented their results on shortest linear programs for the linear layers of several well known block ciphers in literature. Shortest linear programs are essentially the minimum number of 2-input xor gates r ...

The bit-sliding paper of Jean et al. (CHES 2017) showed that the smallest-size circuit for SPN based block ciphers such as AES, SKINNY and PRESENT can be achieved via bit-serial implementations. Their technique decreases the bit size of the datapath and na ...

In this article, we present WARP, a lightweight 128-bit block cipher with a 128-bit key. It aims at small-footprint circuit in the field of 128-bit block ciphers, possibly for a unified encryption and decryption functionality. The overall structure of WARP ...

Recently the ForkAES construction was proposed by Andreeva et al. for efficiently performing authenticated encryption of very short messages on next generation IoT devices. The ForkAES tweakable block cipher uses around one and a half AES encryption calls ...

Cryptanalysis of the LowMC block cipher when the attacker has access to a single known plaintext/ciphertext pair is a mathematically challenging problem. This is because the attacker is unable to employ most of the standard techniques in symmetric cryptogr ...

The implementation of the AES encryption core by Moradi et al. at Eurocrypt 2011 is one of the smallest in terms of gate area. The circuit takes around 2400 gates and operates on an 8 bit datapath. However this is an encryption only core and unable to cate ...

It has been common knowledge that for a stream cipher to be secure against generic TMD tradeoff attacks, the size of its internal state in bits needs to be at least twice the size of the length of its secret key. In FSE 2015, Armknecht and Mikhalev however ...

The stream cipher Sprout with a short internal state was proposed in FSE 2015. Although the construction guaranteed resistance to generic Time Memory Data Tradeoff attacks, there were some weaknesses in the design and the cipher was completely broken. In t ...

In the last few years, the field of lightweight cryptography has seen an influx in the number of block ciphers and hash functions being proposed. In the past there have been numerous papers that have looked at circuit level implementation of block ciphers ...

The selection criteria for NIST's Lightweight Crypto Standardization (LWC) have been slowly shifting towards the lightweight efficiency of designs, given that a large number of candidates already establish their security claims on conservative, well-studie ...

Recently there have been various attempts to construct light weight implementations of the AES-128 encryption and combined encryption/ decryption circuits. However no known lightweight circuit exists forAES-192 and AES-256, the variants of AES that use lon ...

At COSADE'2020, Carre et al. established a novel biascancelling property of the AES MixColumns matrix that effectively corrects any skewed output distribution of a state byte due to a faulty substitution box. Consequently, any effected byte is rendered uni ...

Lizard is a lightweight stream cipher proposed by Hamann, Krause and Meier in IACR ToSC 2017. It has a Grain-like structure with two state registers of size 90 and 31 bits. The cipher uses a 120 bit secret key and a 64 bit IV. The authors claim that Lizard ...

Recently, cryptographic literature has seen new block cipher designs such as PRESENT, GIFT or SKINNY that aim to be more lightweight than the current standard, i.e., AES. Even though AES family of block ciphers were designed two decades ago, they still rem ...

In this paper we present proofs for the new biases in RC4 which were experimentally found and listed out (without theoretical justifi- cations and proofs) in a paper by Vanhoef et al. in USENIX 2015. Their purpose was to exploit the vulnerabilities of RC4 ...

Public knowledge about the structure of a cryptographic system is a standard assumption in the literature and algorithms are expected to guarantee security in a setting where only the encryption key is kept secret. Nevertheless, undisclosed proprietary cry ...

In CHES 2017, Jean et al. presented a paper on "Bit-Sliding" in which the authors proposed lightweight constructions for SPN based block ciphers like AES, PRESENT and SKINNY. The main idea behind these constructions was to reduce the length of the datapath ...

In this paper we present proofs for the new biases in RC4 which were experimentally found and listed out (without theoretical justifications and proofs) in a paper by Vanhoef et al. in USENIX 2015. Their purpose was to exploit the vulnerabilities of RC4 in ...

Forkciphers are a new kind of primitive proposed recently by Andreeva et al. for efficient encryption and authentication of small messages. They fork the middle state of a cipher and encrypt it twice under two smaller independent permutations. Thus, forkci ...

Threshold Implementations have become a popular generic technique to construct circuits resilient against power analysis attacks. In this paper, we look to devise efficient threshold circuits for the lightweight block cipher family SKINNY. The only threshol ...
