Daryl Yee Wei LiangIncoming Assistant Professor of Electrical and Microengineering (March 2023)
Sangwoo KimSangwoo Kim is set to join EPFL as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in September 2023. Prior to his appointment at EPFL, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his graduate degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where his research delved into the relationships between statistics, geometry, and mechanical states in cellular matters. Currently, his research focus on fundamental understanding of biological and living systems, as well as the study of soft and active matter employing principles from mechanics and physics. His research interests encompass embryonic development, tissue morphogenesis, structure and mechanics of soft materials, inherent structure of amorphous materials, and non-equilibrium dynamics of active matter.

Anne-Florence Raphaëlle BitbolI was trained in physics, and always had a strong interest in biology. I am broadly interested in understanding biological phenomena in a quantitative way, through physical concepts and mathematical and computational tools. I investigate the relative impacts of optimization and historical contingency in biological evolution, both at the scale of protein sequences and at the scale of microbial populations. Here is my research group website.Curriculum vitae Here is my complete CV. Teaching & PhD PhD Students Mustafa Öztürk, Nadia Grenningloh Courses Mechanics of cells and tissues BIO-300 In this course, students will explore how mechanical stimuli shape molecular responses, cell behaviors, and tissue architecture, with an emphasis on regeneration and disease. Basic image analysis tools will be introduced to determine cellular and tissue properties. Practical - Ga Camille Véronique Bernadette GoemansCamille's research focuses on understanding how antibiotics and non-antibiotic drugs affect the diverse bacteria from the human gut microbiota and how they contribute to dysbiosis and the development of antibiotic resistance. To achieve this goal, she combines systems approaches with molecular microbiology, bacterial genetics and biochemistry. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biomedical Sciences from the UCLouvain, Belgium, after which she completed her PhD (FRIA national fellowship) at th
