Heterostructured nanocomposites offer promise for creating systems exhibiting functional properties that exceed those of the isolated components. For solar energy conversion, such combinations of semiconducting nanomaterials can be used to direct charge tr ...

Intermediate band gap semiconductors are an underex-plored class of materials with unique optical properties of interest for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. Herein, we synthesize highly crystalline cubic Cu3VS4 nanocrystals with tunable edge ...

The classical nucleation theory (CNT) is the most common theoretical framework used to explain particle formation. However, nucleation is a complex process with reaction pathways which are often not covered by the CNT. Herein, we study the formation mechan ...

In the past decade, atomically engineered nanomaterials with different sizes and exposed facets have been proven to be excellent model systems to advance catalytic studies. Colloidal chemistry is one of the most powerful wet-chemistry techniques to tailor- ...

Indium phosphide quantum dots (InP QDs) are a promising example of Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive (RoHS)-compliant light-emitting materials. However, they suffer from low quantum yield and instability upon processing under ambient conditions ...

The use of all-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) in photocatalytic systems has been limited because of their instability in polar solvents. Encapsulation of PeNCs in inorganic or polymeric matrices has been shown to be effective in overcoming such ...

Synergistic effects at metal/metal oxide interfaces often give rise to highly active and selective catalytic motifs. So far, such interactions have been rarely explored to enhance the selectivity in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). Herei ...

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a method to grow thin metal oxide layers on a variety of materials for applications spanning from electronics to catalysis. Extending ALD to colloidally stable nanocrystals promises to combine the benefits of thin metal oxi ...

Combining domains of different chemical nature within the same hybrid material through the formation of heterojunctions provides the opportunity to exploit the properties of each individual component within the same nano-object; furthermore, new synergisti ...

Size, morphology, and surface sites of electrocatalysts have a major impact on their performance. Understanding how, when, and why these parameters change under operating conditions is of importance for designing stable, active, and selective catalysts. He ...

At the outermost surface of colloidal QDs are organic surface ligands which dynamically bind and release in solution to control the growth kinetics, control the size/shape of the crystals, passivate surface states, and provide colloidal stability through f ...

Hybrid nanocomposites including quantum dots (QDs) and molecular dyes offer tunability of charge and energy transfer processes, which are attractive for applications spanning from light-emitting devices to photocatalysis and photon upconversion. Core@shell ...

To produce chemicals and fuels from CO2 and water while storing excess energy from renewable resources will play a big role in sustainability. Three decades ago, we learned that copper possesses the unique ability to break the stable CO2 bonds and to form ...
