Biomedical electronics plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between engineering and medicine by enabling the development of miniaturized medical equipment offering efficient diagnosis as wel l as treatment for various diseases. However, despite the rec ...

The increasing penetration of variable renewable energies poses new challenges for grid management. The economic feasibility of grid-balancing plants may be limited by low annual operating hours if they work either only for power generation or only for pow ...

Solid-oxide electrolyzer (SOE) based power-to-methane (PtM) system can efficiently store surplus renewable power into synthesis natural gas by electrolysis and methanation. The system performance depends on the operating point of the electrolyzer and syste ...

Power-to-fuel systems via solid-oxide electrolysis are promising for storing excess renewable electricity by efficient electrolysis of steam (or co-electrolysis of steam and CO2) into hydrogen (or syngas), which can be further converted into synthetic fuel ...

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) have developed to a mature technology, able to achieve electrical efficiencies beyond 60%. This makes them particularly suitable for off-grid applications, where SOFCs can supply both electricity and heat at high efficiency. C ...

Electricity production and consumption must be balanced for the electrical grid. However, the rapidly growing intermittent power sources are now challenging the supply-demand balance, leading to large flexibility needs for grid management. The plant integr ...

Power-to-methane technologies have been regarded as a promising alternative to offer small or large-scale, long-timescale (daily/weekly/seasonal) energy storage as well as the opportunity of utilizing CO2. The performance of the core component, the electro ...

During continuous operation of energy systems, the performance of components will mostly, gradually deviate away from the reference conditions due to performance degradation, which may eventually lead to malfunctions or operation failure. The complex inter ...

Compressed air energy storage technologies can improve the supply capacity and stability of the electric- ity grid, particularly when fluctuating renewable energies are massively connected. While incorporating the combined cooling, heating and power system ...

Scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) offers a highly sensitive and convenient approach for electrochemical mapping of interleukin-6 (IL-6), an oral cancer protein biomarker. In this study, we utilized the SECM to map the distribution of IL-6 for imag ...

This paper presents a model-based investigation to handle the fundamental issues for the design of co-electrolysis based power-to-methane at the levels of both the stack and system: the role of CO2 in co-electrolysis, the benefits of employing pressurized ...

The increasing penetration of intermittent renewable power challenges the stability of the electrical grid, thus coal power plants are usually required to extend the operation range by reducing the minimum load. This work proposes a concept of coupling sol ...

In order to improve the performance of the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) under off-design conditions, an intermediate recuperated combined cycle gas turbine (IRCCGT) system was proposed, which was designed to suppress turbine inlet temperature (TIT) fr ...

Direct air-cooling condenser has attracted significant attention in the last decade due to the employment of Rankine-cycle based power plants from renewable (e.g., concentrated solar) or traditional (e.g., coal) heat sources in water-scarce areas. The opti ...

The growing trend of the cruise ship industry, together with increasing concerns over its impact on the environment, makes these ships a much relevant target for the efforts toward increasing ship energy efficiency, thus ultimately reducing fuel consumptio ...

Solid-oxide electrolyzer based power-to-methane is promising for large-scale energy storage as well as biogas upgrading by efficiently converting intermittent renewable power and CO2 (e.g., in biogas) into synthetic methane. Either air or pure oxygen can b ...

MXenes belong to a large family of two-dimensional layered transition-metal carbides and nitrides. MXene nanosheets integrate the fascinating advantages of high electronic conductivity, excellent biocompatibility, and acid/base resistance. Herein, we demon ...

Imbalance costs caused by forecasting errors are considerable for grid-connected wind farms. In order to reduce such costs, two onsite storage technologies, i.e., power-to-hydrogen-to-power and lithium battery, are investigated considering 14 uncertain tec ...

Solid-oxide electrolysis technology (SOEC) can efficiently convert electricity from renewable sources into H-2 via steam electrolysis, or syngas (a mixture of H-2 and CO2) via co-electrolysis of steam and CO2. Co-SOEC provides the advantage of better therm ...

CO2 hydrogenation over catalysts is a potentially exciting method to produce fuels while closing the CO2 cycle and mitigating global warming. The mechanism of this process has been controversial due to the difficulty in clearly identifying the species pres ...
