The relationship between age-related changes in brain structural connectivity (SC) and functional connectivity (FC) with cognition is not well understood. Furthermore, it is not clear whether cognition is represented via a similar spatial pattern of FC and ...

Brain signatures of functional activity have shown promising results in both decoding brain states, meaning distinguishing between different tasks, and fingerprinting, that is identifying individuals within a large group. Importantly, these brain signature ...

Physiological evidence suggests that neighboring brain regions have similar perfusion characteristics (vascular supply, collateral blood flow). It is largely unknown whether integrating perfusion CT (pCT) information from the area surrounding a given voxel ...

Moving from association to causal analysis of neuroimaging data is crucial to advance our understanding of brain function. The arrow-of-time (AoT), that is, the known asymmetric nature of the passage of time, is the bedrock of causal structures shaping phy ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable tool for studying subcutaneous implants in rodents, providing non-invasive insight into biomaterial conformability and longitudinal characterization. However, considerable variability in existing image analysi ...

ObjectivesTo provide an automated classification method for degenerative parkinsonian syndromes (PS) based on semiquantitative I-123-FP-CIT SPECT striatal indices and support-vector-machine (SVM) analysis.Methods(123)I-FP-CIT SPECT was performed at a singl ...

Objective To assess whether gait, neuropsychological, and multimodal MRI parameters predict short-term symptom reversal after cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tap test in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). Methods Thirty patients (79.3 +/- 5.9 years ...

The relation between brain functional activity and the underlying structure is complex and varies depending on the specific brain region. Recently, we used graph signal processing to introduce the structural-decoupling index (SDI), a novel metric quantifyi ...

Introduction: Imaging studies are used to guide patient selection for acute stroke treatment. Perfusion CT (pCT) is widely used to identify the acute ischemic core and penumbra, but the prediction of the final infarct remains challenging. With the advent o ...

Nodal properties are of particular importance when investigating patterns in brain networks. Nodal information is usually studied by comparing a few nodal measurements (up to three), resulting in analyses in three-dimensional spaces, at maximum. We offer a ...

Background: Modifications in brain function remain relatively unexplored in progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS), despite their potential to provide new insights into the pathophysiology of the disease at this stage. Objectives: To characterize the dynamic ...

Advanced age is the most important risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), and carrier-status of the Apolipoprotein E4 (APOE4) allele is the strongest known genetic risk factor. Many studies have consistently shown a link between APOE4 and synaptic dysfu ...

Resting-state fMRI has proven to entail subject-specific signatures that can serve as a fingerprint to identify individuals. Conventional methods are based on building a connectivity matrix based on correlation between the average time course of pairs of b ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) relies upon the blood-oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) signal as a proxy for neuronal activity. Whole-brain coverage and millimetric resolution have propelled this modality as a workhorse for human neuroscienc ...

Epileptic networks, defined as brain regions involved in epileptic brain activity, have been mapped by functional connectivity in simultaneous electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG-fMRI) recordings. This technique allows to ...

Functional connectivity patterns in the human brain, like the friction ridges of a fingerprint, can uniquely identify individuals. Does this “brain fingerprint” remain distinct even during Alzheimer’s disease (AD)? Using fMRI data from healthy and patholog ...

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a well-established methodology to probe brain organization. Previous work has demonstrated that the probability of drowsiness and even sleep increases significantly in participants during restin ...

The study of complex systems greatly benefits from graph models and their analysis. In particular, the eigendecomposition of the graph Laplacian lets emerge properties of global organization from local interactions; e.g., the Fiedler vector has the smalles ...

Background: Compared with conventional unimodal analysis, understanding how brain function and structure relate to one another opens a new biologically relevant assessment of neural mechanisms. However, how function-structure dependencies (FSDs) evolve thr ...

Alterations in activity and connectivity of brain circuits implicated in emotion processing and emotion regulation have been observed during resting-state for different clinical phases of bipolar disorders (BD), but longitudinal investigations across diffe ...
