New drugs are needed to control the current tuberculosis (TB) pandemic caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We report here on our work with AX-35, an arylvinylpiperazine amide, and four related analogs, which are potent antitubercular agent ...

Tight control of gene expression is crucial for Mycobacterium tuberculosis to adapt to the changing environments encountered when infecting or exiting human cells. While three nucleoid associated proteins (NAPs) EspR, HupB and Lsr2 have been investigated, ...

Molecular drug susceptibility testing was performed on skin biopsies from 24 leprosy patients from Guinea-Conakry for the first time. We identified primary drug resistance in 4 cases and a dapsone-resistant cluster caused by the same strain. Primary transm ...

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) requires protein secretion systems like ESX-1 for intracellular survival and virulence. The major virulence determinant and ESX-1 substrate, EsxA, arrests phagosome maturation and lyses cell membranes, resulting in tissue d ...

The frequency of infection caused by the recently described pathogen Mycobacterium lepromatosis is unknown. Here, we describe the demographics, clinical characteristics, and therapeutic outcomes of five lepromatous leprosy patients suffering from M. leprom ...

Better antibiotics capable of killing multi-drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis are urgently needed. Despite extensive drug discovery efforts, only a few promising candidates are on the horizon and alternative screening protocols are required. Here, ...
