The photovoltaics industry is adopting bifacial systems which offer improved energy harvesting compared to monofacial ones. This stems from the collection of light reflected by the surroundings on the rear side of the modules, leading to system-level gains ...

Zr-doped indium oxide (In2O3:Zr) has been shown to satisfy the requirements of low resistance, wide band gap, and high infrared transmittance for application as a front contact in broadband solar cells. However, the reduction of indium usage in front of tr ...

In this work, we use several approaches to perform accurate Series Resistance (R-S) breakdown of a state of the art 2 cm x 2 cm screen-printed solar cell reaching 82.5% FF. On the one hand, Haschke et al.'s model for the lateral transport through the cell, ...

High efficiency silicon solar cells generally feature heterojunction or carrier-selective contact architectures, for which there is current interest in developing structures using a wide range of materials. The electrical and optical requirements that thes ...

We investigate the influence of the deposition parameters for intrinsic amorphous silicon absorber layers on light-induced degradation (LID) of thin-film silicon solar cells. The focus is on absorber layers with different bandgaps: on one side, solar cells ...

In recent years, considerable efforts have been devoted to developing novel electron-selective materials for crystalline Si(c-Si) solar cells with the attempts to simplify the fabrication process and improve efficiency. In this study, ZnO:Al (AZO) is co-sp ...

Multi-junction photovoltaic devices include two or more component sub-cells which are electrically interconnected in series. At any power point, the current output of the total device is limited by the sub-cell with the smallest current density. Therefore, ...

We study amorphous silicon-germanium (a-SiGe:H) as intrinsic absorber material for thin-film silicon-based triple and quadruple junction solar cells. First, we present the development of a-SiGe:H single junction devices, in particular the Ge-content gradin ...

We compare the performance of two back reflector designs on the optoelectrical properties of microcrystalline silicon solar cells. The first one consists of a 5-mu m-thick low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD)-ZnO electrode combined with a white s ...

Crystalline silicon (c-Si) photovoltaics has long been considered energy intensive and costly. Over the past decades, spectacular improvements along the manufacturing chain have made c-Si a low-cost source of electricity that can no longer be ignored. Over ...

As the thin film silicon solar cell technology reaches a pivotal point to keep competing in the photovoltaic industry where crystalline silicon and other technologies currently dominate, it has become an urgent task to revolutionize some of its state-of-th ...

Amorphous/crystalline silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells technology is attracting tremendous attention in recent years due to its potential to achieve high power conversion efficiencies at low fabrication temperatures and using few process steps. How ...

This work reports the electrical characterization of ZnSnx Ge1 - xN2 (ZTGN) layers (10% < x < 90%) deposited on glass by combinatorial sputtering and further assesses the performance of silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells featuring them as electron-se ...

Heterojunction carrier selective contacts for solar cells have gained great attention because of the ability of these contacts to efficiently collect majority carriers while hindering the recombination of minority carriers, thus resulting in the highest re ...

In this article, we investigate the effect of prolonged light exposure on silicon heterojunction solar cells. We show that, although light exposure systematically improves solar cell efficiency in the case of devices using intrinsic and p-type layers with ...

In silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells, one factor limiting efficiency is "parasitic absorption" from amorphous silicon (a-Si) at the front surface. Thus, discovery of a transparent hole-selective contact to replace p-type a-Si is a promising area of ...

Theory predicts that periodic photonic nanostructures should outperform their random counterparts in trapping light in solar cells. However, the current certified world-record conversion efficiency for amorphous silicon thin-film solar cells, which strongl ...

We report on the optoelectronic properties of ITO layers deposited by DC sputtering, using different oxygen to total flow ratios [r(O-2) = O-2/Ar, ranging from 1% to 8%], for silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cell application. The depth profiling of the v ...

Photovoltaic (PV) technology offers an economic and sustainable solution to the challenge of increasing energy demand in times of global warming. The world PV market is currently dominated by the homo-junction crystalline silicon (c-Si) PV technology based ...

This work reports the electrical characterization of ZnSnxGe1-xN2 (ZTGN) layers deposited on glass by sputtering and further assesses for the first time the performance of SHJ solar cells featuring them as electron-selective contacts. Bandgap, conductivity ...
