Background: Major concerns in hip arthroplasty concern the fate of bearing surfaces. Highly cross-linked polyethylene materials (HXLPE) currently demonstrate successful in vitro results with new technical procedures of cross-linking the polyethylene materi ...

IntroductionThis study assessed the bone cuts accuracy of a robotic-assisted system for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) that was recently upgraded.Materials and methodsThree orthopaedic surgeons planned and executed TKA on 24 sawbones. Bone cut accuracy was ...

Objective: This study aimed to compare subchondral bone mineral density (sBMD) between non-radiographic osteoarthritic (OA) and medial femorotibial OA knees, using computed tomography (CT). Design: CT exams from 16 non-radiographic OA (KL grade < 2) and 16 ...

Subject-specific modelling of Total Knee Arthroplasty could be an efficient method to preoperatively evaluate surgical options. In particular, the question of the necessity of patellar resurfacing is still a debatable issue. The aim of this work was to val ...

Objective: To introduce an integrated joint system (IJS) model of joint health and osteoarthritis (OA) pathophysiology through a systematic review of the cross-sectional relationships among three knee properties (cartilage thickness, gait mechanics, and su ...

In this work, we present the general concept of an instrumented smart knee prosthesis for in-vivo measurement of forces and kinematics. This system can be used for early monitoring of the patient after implantation and prevent possible damage to the prosth ...

Gait analysis methods to estimate spatiotemporal measures, based on two, three or four gyroscopes attached on lower limbs have been discussed in the literature. The most common approach to reduce the number of sensing units is to simplify the underlying bi ...

Alterations in cartilage thickness (CTh) are a hallmark of knee osteoarthritis, which remain difficult to characterize at high resolution, even with modern magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), due to a paucity of standardization tools. This study aimed to ass ...

Using insoles to modify walking biomechanics is of keen interest for the treatment of medial-compartment knee osteoarthritis. So far, insole interventions have focused on reducing the peak of the knee adduction moment (pKAM) and have led to inconsistent cl ...

Purpose The present study was designed to evaluate the long-term results (more than 10 years) of mobile bearing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and to compare the survival of medial pivot axis (MPA) and central pivot axis (CPA) TKAs. The primary hypothesis w ...

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the bone cuts accuracy of a system for total knee arthroplasty including an active robotic arm. A second objective was to compare the accuracy among orthopaedic surgeons of different levels of experience. Methods: T ...

There is a growing interest for turning biomechanics notably because it is a more challenging task than straight-line walking during which some gait impairments are increased. Detecting heel-strike (HS) and toe-off (TO) events using the trajectory of marke ...

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of bone cuts and implant placements, simultaneously, for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) performed using a system with an active robotic arm. Methods: Two experienced orthopaedic surgeons performed TKA on ...

Background: Longitudinal research is required to better understand the role of spinal movement alterations in chronic low back pain (CLBP). To this end, it is critical to assess the between-session reliability of spinal movement measures. ...

Background: The primary hypothesis was that body weight (BW) and body mass index (BMI) significantly impact the long-term survival rate after implantation of a mobile bearing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). ...

Lateral wedge insoles (LWI) have been proposed to reduce the knee adduction moment (KAM) during walking; a biomechanical modification notably sought in case of medial knee osteoarthritis. However, the inter-individual inconsistency in KAM changes with LWI ...

Gait retraining is gaining in interest to reduce loading associated to knee osteoarthritis (OA) progression. So far, interventions focused on reducing the peak knee adduction moment (pKAM) and it remains unclear if this can be done individually without inc ...

Ligament balance is an important and subjective task performed during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) procedure. For this reason, it is desirable to develop instruments to quantitatively assess the soft-tissue balance since excessive imbalance can accelerate ...
