Finding relations between image semantics and image characteristics is a problem of long standing in computer vision and related fields. Despite persistent efforts and significant advances in the field, today’s computers are still strikingly unable to achi ...

We present a color thesaurus with over 9000 color names in ten different languages. Instead of using conventional psychophysical experiments, we use a statistical framework that is based on search results from Google Image Search. For each color name we co ...

We present a statistical framework to automatically determine an associated color for a given arbitrary semantic expression. The expression can not only be a color name but any word or character string. In addition to the color value, we are also able to c ...

The ultimate goal of automatic image rendering is a system that gives at least as pleasing results as a human expert using an image manipulation program. In this article we demonstrate that the exploitation of semantic image keywords is a promising approac ...

Multimedia data with associated semantics is omnipresent in today’s social online platforms in the form of keywords, user comments and so forth. This article presents a statistical framework designed to infer knowledge in the imaging domain from the semant ...

Low-cost monitoring cameras/webcams provide unique visual information. To take advantage of the vast image dataset captured by a typical webcam, we consider the problem of retrieving weather information from a database of still images. The task is to autom ...

With the advent of social image-sharing communities, millions of images with associated semantic tags are now available online for free and allow us to exploit this abundant data in new ways. We present a fast non-parametric statistical framework designed ...

Skin colors are important for a broad range of imaging applications to assure quality and naturalness. We discuss the impact of various metadata on skin colors in images, i.e. how does the presence of a metadata attribute influence the expected skin color ...

In this paper we compare three existing methods to measure the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of a printing system. Although all three methods use very distinct approaches, the MTF values computed for two of these methods strongly agree, lending credib ...

We present an automatic framework to extract color palettes from words. This is a novel approach in comparison to existing solutions, e.g. manual creation or extraction from images. The associations between words and colors are deduced from a large databas ...

In this paper we introduce a unified framework that automatically selects the optimal color rendering intent for a given print job. We first present how we extract information from both the image features and the semantic information contained in keywords ...
