Combining nonlinear integrated photonics with electron microscopy, we probe the formation of optical dissipative structures in Si3N4 microresonators with free electrons and find unique spectral fingerprints in the electron spectrum that enable new electron ...

When measuring the position of a mechanical oscillator, quantum mechanics imposes a strict limit on the attainable precision: Any reduction of imprecision leads to increased quantum backaction of the measuring probe on the oscillator. This quantum limit ca ...

Optical amplification, crucial for modern communication, primarily relies on erbium-doped fibre amplifiers (EDFAs)1,2. Yet, EDFAs only cover a portion of the low-loss spectrum of optical fibres. This has motivated the development of amplifiers operating be ...

In this paper, we present the first ultra-low-noise, self-injection locked (SIL) laser with frequency agility based on the monolithic integration of a low-loss silicon nitride (Si3N4) photonic spiral cavity with an aluminum nitride (AlN) actuator. The self ...

Narrowband microwave filters have wide ranging applications, including the reduction in phase noise of microwave sources within a given frequency band. The prospect of developing an automated filter that tunes itself to an arbitrary desired frequency at ma ...

In strained mechanical resonators, the concurrence of tensile stress and geometric nonlinearity dramatically reduces dissipation. This phenomenon, called dissipation dilution, is employed in mirror suspensions of gravitational-wave interferometers and at t ...

We numerically investigate the nonlinear dynamics of an optical resonator with electro-optical modulation. In this system we discover chimera states and their transition into new stable states with increasing modulation amplitude. Bifurcation analysis reve ...

Cavity optomechanics(1) is a new research field that has seen spectacular advances in recent years. Optomechanics combines advances in nano-and electromechanical systems with radiation pressure enabled control. The radiation pressure backaction enables to ...

The field of cavity optomechanics is reviewed. This field explores the interaction between electromagnetic radiation and nanomechanical or micromechanical motion. This review covers the basics of optical cavities and mechanical resonators, their mutual opt ...

Electromagnetically induced transparency is a quantum interference effect observed in atoms and molecules, in which the optical response of an atomic medium is controlled by an electromagnetic field. We demonstrated a form of induced transparency enabled b ...

Temporal-dissipative Kerr solitons are self-localized light pulses sustained in driven nonlinear optical resonators. Their realization in microresonators has enabled compact sources of coherent optical frequency combs as well as the study of dissipative so ...

The generation of dissipative Kerr solitons in optical microresonators has provided a route to compact frequency combs of high repetition rate, which have already been employed for optical frequency synthesizers, ultrafast ranging, coherent telecommunicati ...

Space-time (ST) wave packets, in which spatial and temporal characteristics are coupled, have gained attention due to their unique propagation characteristics, such as propagation invariance and tunable group velocity in addition to their potential ability ...
