The invention relates to use of an aerolysin nanopore for the discrimination of different protein isoforms bearing different post-translational modifications (PTMs) and to methods for detecting adverse medical conditions associated with the presence of pep ...

Members of the DEAD-box helicase family are involved in all fundamental processes of RNA metabolism, and as such, their malfunction is associated with various diseases. Currently, whether and how oligomerization impacts their biochemical and biological fun ...

Fatty acid β-oxidation is a central catabolic pathway with broad health implications. However, various fatty acids, including 4-hydroxy acids (4-HAs), are largely incompatible with β-oxidation machinery before being modified. Here we reveal that two atypic ...

Owing to their pathogenical role and unique ability to exist both as soluble proteins and transmembrane complexes, pore-forming toxins (PFTs) have been a focus of microbiologists and structural biologists for decades. PFTs are generally secreted as water-s ...

The lack of structural information on hepatitis C virus (HCV) surface proteins has so far hampered the development of effective vaccines. Recently, two crystallographic structures have described the core portion (E2c) of E2 surface glycoprotein, the primar ...

Aerolysin polypeptides and/or mutant aerolysin monomers include modified amino acid sequences that could have improved substrate analyte, such as (poly)nucleotide and peptide, improved reading properties such as enhanced substrate analyte capture and impro ...

Revealing the atomistic architecture of supramolecular complexes is a fundamental step toward a deeper understanding of cellular functioning. To date, this formidable task is facilitated by an emerging array of integrative modeling approaches that combine ...

Repression of endogenous retroviral elements (ERVs) is facilitated by KAP1 (KRAB-associated protein 1)-containing complexes, however the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we show that binding of KAP1 to the major component of the heterochromatin ...

The UbiB protein kinase-like (PKL) family is widespread, comprising one-quarter of microbial PKLs and five human homologs, yet its biochemical activities remain obscure. COQ8A (ADCK3) is a mammalian UbiB protein associated with ubiquinone (CoQ) biosynthesi ...

In the Big Data era, a change of paradigm in the use of molecular dynamics is required. Trajectories should be stored under FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) requirements to favor its reuse by the community under an open science paradigm.
