The cell cycle is a fundamental process in eukaryotic biology and is accordingly controlled by a highly conserved core signaling cascade. However, whether recently evolved proteins also influence this process is unclear. Here, we systematically map the inf ...

Heterochromatin loss and genetic instability enhance cancer progression by favoring clonal diversity, yet uncontrolled replicative stress leads to mitotic catastrophe and inflammatory responses that promote immune rejection. KRAB domain-containing zinc fin ...

The human genome harbors more than 4.5 million transposable element (TE)-derived insertions, the result of recurrent waves of invasion and internal propagation. Here they show that TEs belonging to evolutionarily recent subfamilies go on to regulate later ...

Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) domain-containing zinc finger proteins (KZFPs) are one of the largest groups of transcription factors encoded by tetrapods, with 378 members in human alone. KZFP genes are often grouped in clusters reflecting amplification by ...

The treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) is an unmet medical need in absence of early diagnosis. Here, upon characterizing cancer-specific transposable element-driven transpochimeric gene transcripts (TcGTs) produced by this tumor in the SYSCOL cohort, we ...

Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic process regulated by germline-derived DNA methylation, causing parental origin-specific monoallelic gene expression. Zinc finger protein 57 (ZFP57) is critical for maintenance of this epigenetic memory during post-fertil ...

Long known as the site of ribosome biogenesis, the nucleolus is increasingly recognized for its role in shaping three-dimensional (3D) genome organization. Still, the mechanisms governing the targeting of selected regions of the genome to nucleolus-associa ...

ZNF93 is a primate-restricted Krüppel-associated box zinc finger protein responsible for repressing 20- to 12-My-old L1 transposable elements. Here, we reveal that ZNF93 also regulates the key cancer driver APOBEC3B—a mutagenic enzyme linked to tumorigenes ...

Some of the earliest transcripts produced in fertilized human and mouse oocytes code for DUX, a double homeodomain protein that promotes embryonic genome activation (EGA). Deleting Dux by genome editing at the 1- to 2-cell stage in the mouse impairs EGA an ...

The invention provides an agent modulating the expression and/or activity of i) the POU5F1B protein, a fragment or variant thereof, ii) an mRNA encoding POU5F1B, a fragment or variant thereof and/or iii) the POU5F1B gene. Preferably, the agent is for use i ...
