Professional skills of project planning, risk analysis, ethical design, communication, and working in interprofessional teams are now recognised as core engineering skills. Frequently, they are addressed in engineering education through team projects. Howe ...

We build a conversational agent which knowledge base is an online forum for parents of autistic children. We collect about 35,000 threads totalling some 600,000 replies, and label 1% of them for usefulness using Amazon Mechanical Turk. We train a Random Fo ...

During the past two decades, educating students about sustainability issues has been a concern when designing engineering schools' curricula. One could think that nowadays students are trained to take into account the multiple dimensions of sustainability ...

Short-term field study involves groups of students working in an off-campus (sometimes international) setting, and often involves working on realistic, open-ended problems, in interaction with a host community. Such learning experiences are intended to dev ...

Short-term field study experiences are increasingly popular in engineering education. Where they include an international dimension, they can also develop skills and knowledge needed for working across cultures and in interdisciplinary teams. Such programs ...

Course design in higher education is often approached in a very linear and text-based manner. The paper presents a visual tool in the form of a canvas aimed at accompanying teachers in the design of courses. The canvas can be used in an individual or co-te ...

This book has been designed for instructors in higher education or adult training who wish to develop a new course or revise an existing one. It adopts a practical, visual, and modular approach based on the principle of constructive alignment. At its heart ...

Network industries, such as electricity, railways and air transport, are very complex technical, economic, and political systems in which the interplay of technology and institutions has a significant impact on performance. While the performance of the net ...

This introductory paper questions how urban places emerging from the maker movement are re-assembling spatial settings in cities, with the example of the Shenzhen/Hong-Kong area. We discuss how the growing importance of assemblage in manufacturing processe ...
